Maths/Science News

Viewbank College shines again!

Every year groups of students from year 7 and 8 work on mathematical investigation projects in Term 3 and participate in the Maths Talent Quest. They choose their investigation topic based on their interests and apply mathematics in context.

We are thrilled to announce a significant achievement by one of the groups of year 8 students. Competing against 460 entries across 50 Victorian schools, their diligent work and innovative approach earned them the title of having the best project in Victoria. Demonstrating their prowess in understanding and applying financial literacy, our students explored "Is Health Insurance Worth It?" This accomplishment reflects their dedication and underscores the quality of guidance and mentorship provided by our faculty.

Our triumphant champions proudly displaying their well-deserved certificates!

Year 8 Biodiverse Cities Excursion

During October, all year 8 Science classes visited the Banyule-Nillumbik Technical School for a hands-on excursion to promote Biodiverse Cities. In groups, students used the inquiry-based learning process to define a problem within our current cities, research and generate design ideas, propose solutions, then use the facilities of the Technical school to produce their solution, and present their ideas for a Biodiverse City back to the class. Students were able to use the podcast booth to record a podcast, the green screen to record a video, and the CAD software to design CAD models, 3D print, laser cut, or vinyl cut prototypes.

Attached are photos from the excursions with 8C and 8H.
