From the Principal Class

Dear Viewbank College Community,

As we move into the final six weeks of the year, I want to farewell our Year 12 students who are completing final exams and will be waiting on results, which will be released late December.

They have stepped into their final exams in a positive way and I am incredibly proud of their efforts.

Our Year 10 & 11 students are about to enter their exam period. This is an important opportunity for them to demonstrate their learning over the year, but also to practice the skills required for Year 12 and for life: organisation, time management, work ethic and taking responsibility for self.

As a parent, it is so important that you encourage that self-efficacy. Support them by encouraging them to step up- to feel a level of stress and anxiety around this time is normal.  As always, our Senior School Team and Wellbeing Team will continue to offer support to students as needed.

Lateness and Absences:

We continue to see students arriving late at school and to classes during the day. There are also a small number of instances where parents have excused students for disappearing from the College for a period of time.

Being on time and attending all classes is important for the learning of all students and to set them up for future education and work. Self-discipline, meeting commitments and showing respect for the whole learning community are some of the important lessons we are trying to instil.

If parents make excuses for their students, they are simply enabling poor behaviour and poor choices. Please speak with a Level Leader or Head of House if you need support in this important aspect of your child’s schooling.

College Events:

A whole range of College events and activities continue to be on offer and I encourage parents and other members of the community to consider attending.

Our Year 9 Holocaust ‘Light and Dark’ Exhibition is planned again on Monday December 5, with more detail to follow.

Our Art and Design Showcase/Exhibition is also a highlight and will be held on November 23rd.

Tickets available for both events on Try-booking.

Facilities

We are very pleased with the progress of our walking trail. It is due for completion in December, but students and members of the public are accessing the track for physical activity and recreation.
