RAMSAR Wetlands Excursion

We enjoyed a day learning about the local RAMSAR Wetlands, where we were able to look at flora, fauna, learn about migration and the way our Wadawurrung People lived.

RAMSAR Excursion Reflections

On Tuesday 21st of November the Grade 6’s went on a excursion to the Barwon River. We did canoeing, bird watching, plant finding, migration game, and learning about Aboriginal culture. It was really fun. We learnt a lot of stuff and had a fun day.

Just two weeks ago the year six’s went to the Barwon river where we learnt four things about the place where we live and the natural habitats. We learnt about the aboriginals and how they lived and what they ate. We canoed across the river and back, learning about the mud and why it is so important to our home. We learnt about a type of bird that migrates to Australia in the summer. It's name is a red necked stint it fly's from Siberia to Australia. The threats to the red necked stint are dogs, lack of food, destruction of the wetlands and people. The last activity was learning about the native plants to the wetlands and what they do for us and what they need. All in all it was a great experience and a fun learning opportunity.

Grade 6 Camp

Everyone had an amazing time at Kangaroobie, students participated in a range of activities, such as a beach walk, mugby, night walk, canoeing, game of life or death, farm activities, obstacle course, trivia night, twelve apostles as well as some free time to play games and explore the farmland with their friends.

Camp Reflections:

Last week the grade sixes took a long bus ride down to camp Kangaroobie in Princetown, we traveled across the river on a raft and then walked a long hike to the beach where we had tons of fun jumping off sand dunes splashing in the river and playing mugby. Then we walked back and had a delicious dinner from right there on the farm. Then came the night walk where Matt told us old stories about the farm that spooked us all. Here comes day two where we woke up to a yummy breakfast and then straight into activities, our group had canoeing first up and that was a blast, next up was an obstacle course where we got super muddy. When we got back we headed straight for the showers and then took a trailer ride around for farm activities where we met an assortment of animals like pigs, sheep and cows, and next we headed into the bush for the game of life or death which was awesome. Then we had some free time and dinner but then came trivia which Mrs. Renfrey was being awesome and organised it all! Lastly on day three we packed up did our dance for the amazing camp staff and left but not without a quick stop to one of Victoria’s greatest landmarks; The Twelve Apostles.

Last week the grade 6s went to Kangaroobie for camp. It took 2 hours to get there and after we arrived we walked to the beach and played Mugby. We had dinner after we walked back and then went on a night walk. We went to bed and the next day we did four activities; Canoeing, an obstacle course and after a quick lunch break we did the other two activities; the game of life and death and farm activities. The next day we packed up and headed back to school. On our way back we saw the twelve apostles.
