Hello Grade 5 families!!!
In the classroom, our theme has been Keep up, not catch up. Students are being continually asked to prioritise their workload to ensure they are effectively managing their time to complete their classroom tasks. Please find some information about what we're working on to finish an amazing year.
Buddy Books
It was great to hear all about how each student met their buddy, and how they enjoyed planting their sunflower seeds together. We've worked hard and our Buddy Books look fantastic!
Australian Inquiry Project
Students have chosen an Australian historical event ranging from 1788-1900. They have been collecting information to convert into a PowerPoint or Poster. Additionally, students will be creating a 3D model of their chosen event with an aim to share and celebrate at the end of the year. We are asking students to be resourceful in bringing items from home to support their dioramas.
Trash to Treasure Xmas Project
Students have been working on their end of year project. The purpose of the task is continue thinking about our impact on the world, and thinking how we reduce and reuse products from going into landfill. With that in mind, students will use recycled items they no longer use to create a new gift to share with a classmate.
My Dream Holiday
In Maths, students are working on a 'Dream Holiday' where they have been asked to take a 7 day holiday anywhere in Australia with a budget of $10,000. Students need to take themselves and at least one parent with a maximum of 4 people to take on the trip. They need to plan every aspect of the trip including travel, activities and food.
Each of these activities are supported in the classroom, but I am encouraging students to take initiative and work from home IF they feel they need to catch up or haven't managed their classroom time effectively. Like anything, time management, organisation, and independence are all skills that we can practice and keep improving. I will keep supporting students to develop and improve these important life skills in preparation for Grade 6, high school and to be successful lifelong learners.
A massive thank you to all families for your support and we look forward to finishing off the year strongly!!! Thank you!!!
Merry Xmas
Grade 5 Team
