Principal's Message

SchoolVision - To empower students to shape and  enrich the world around them.

Dear Barwon Heads Primary School Community,

Thank you for the tremendous welcome I have been given by all of the student's staff and BHPS families. I have thoroughly enjoyed chatting to parents/carers while I have been on the school gates before and after school. Please don't hesitate to come and introduce yourself if you haven't already. I have also been visiting classrooms as much as possible and have been really impressed by the quality of teaching practices and how intrinsically motivated our students are to engage in their learning. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Rachael Curtain for her outstanding leadership in the role of Acting Principal throughout the first 8 weeks of this term. Term 4 is an exceptionally busy time with staffing decisions and planning for the upcoming year and Rachael's tireless work throughout this time has immensely helped my transition to the school.

2024 School Captains

Thank you and well done to all of the students who applied for the role of School Captain for 2024. We recently ran an interview process for the 16 students who progressed to this stage. Myself, and the 2023 School Captains were so impressed with the preparation, confidence, passion and eloquence that the students brought to their interviews. We even had to conduct referee checks to help us determine our eventual School Captains such was the quality of the applicants. We are excited to announce that Chilli Findling, Orla Foley, Maddie Hutchins and Zach Walter (pictured above) will be our School Captains for 2024. We look forward to the leadership they will bring to the school in this role next year.

Year 6 Graduation

On Monday 18th of December our Year 6 students will formally complete their primary schooling at Barwon Heads with the 2023 Graduation Ceremony. This year's cohort has set an outstanding example to our younger students and should be very proud of all that they experienced and achieved at BHPS. We wish all of 2023 graduating class the very best for their secondary schooling and can't wait to hear about all of their dreams coming to fruition in the future.

We look forward to the high expectations for student learning and wellbeing that Maree brings to her teaching as well as her warm, compassionate nature.

Girls' Cricket Team

Congratulations to our Year 6 girls cricket team who competed at the State Championships in Melbourne. This is an amazing achievement and their results attest to their skills, commitment and teamwork.

Christmas Fair

Whilst it was disappointing to have to postpone our fair, we are looking forward to still being able to put it on in the first half of Term One in 2024. This will be a great opportunity for our school community to come together and will act as a welcome event for our new BHPS families.

Well done to all of our students throughout 2023. I look forward to getting to know everyone in our community a whole lot more in 2024. I can't wait to work closely with our staff team to set and implement an ambitious school improvement agenda that caters for the needs of all of your children next year and beyond.

Until then, have a happy and safe New Year and Christmas period, enjoying quality time with family and friends.
