Britton Shield Basketball
We had the privilege of hosting the first Britton Shield Basketball competition, and the event got off to a notable start with a gathering of over 140 students, officials, coaches and staff at Hibiscus Stadium on Wednesday 8 November.
Clayfield College proudly entered four teams into the U12, U10 and U8 categories, with a total of 30 students representing our school. Our dedicated and enthusiastic boys in Years 2 to 6 underwent extensive training over a period of more than 10 weeks and were outfitted in brand-new basketball uniforms, all in preparation for facing off against teams from Moreton Bay Boys' College and Ipswich Junior Grammar School.
A standout feature of the event was the exclusive opportunity for our U8 students to take part in a skills clinic, followed by engaging small games, all expertly guided by the coaching staff from the Brisbane Bullets. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to them for their unwavering support of Clayfield College's basketball programs.
Right from the very first jump ball and basket scored, the atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and a wonderful display of sportsmanship. The excitement and the sense of camaraderie that followed each shot or block was a testament to the boys' development and progress. It's important to acknowledge that our results may not entirely reflect the competitive spirit of our teams, as many of our supporters observed during the event.
We hold a deep sense of appreciation for our dedicated coaches, Mr Mitch Hayward, and Mr Brodie Meis, who generously shared their invaluable guidance and extensive knowledge with our teams.
