Music 

Beginning and Intermediate Band travelled to the Geelong Show to perform in the School Bands Section. The weather was beautiful, the show bags were plentiful, and both bands performed exceptionally well, to a very appreciative audience. Many thanks to Emma Moffatt and Amanda Linton for all their hard work getting bands ready for performance.                  

Saxophone Masterclass

Saxophone students from Years 7-10 travelled to Ballarat last Friday, to participate in a Saxophone masterclass hosted by Ballarat High School. The workshop, was led by Sam Boon, a saxophonist, composer, arranger and studio producer. Students were inspired by his personal story, from regional high school student to internationally renowned performer, arranger and producer, and learnt some great practical tips on how to get into the music industry, and to get the most out of their opportunity to learn saxophone. 

 In an exciting twist, Declan and Finn got to play in a quintet alongside Sam, who has played with Guy Sebastian, Vance Joy, Saskwatch, the Rubens, The Teskey brothers and too many others to mention!

Thanks to Emma Moffatt for seizing the opportunity to give our students this great experience, and also to the students who attended, whose respectful conduct and enthusistic engagement throughout the whole day represented BHS in such a positive way. 

Ensemble CAT 

On Thursday evening Ensemble program students in Years 7-10 completed the performance component of their Term 4 CAT. Students worked throughout term 4 in small groups to prepare works for this performance, and there were some truly outstanding performances. One lucky group will be chosen to perform at Awards night on December 18th. Many thanks to Amanda Linton for organising this performance opportunity. Students will watch videos of their performance, and complete a self reflection of their performance, in their instrumental lessons next week.

  Come along to Fyans Park Primary School’s Christmas Fair on Friday November 24th, and hear Jazz Syndicate, and VET Bands from Years 1 +2, entertain the crowds from 5pm. Pick up some Christmas treats, and sit back and enjoy all the festivities of the fair!
