NATIONAL YOUNG LEADERS DAY

On Friday 27th March, our Grade 6 school leaders attended National Young Leaders Day at Melbourne Convention Centre. They listened to four inspirational speakers who detailed their leadership journeys, what challenges they faced and how they overcame adversity.

Jacqui Bell - written by Alice

Jacqui Bell was the youngest person to complete an ultra marathon on all seven continents. I found Jacqui really inspiring as she turned blind rage into a goal. She overcame tough situations to inspire her to start running. She went from 7km to running 250km over 5 days. She inspired me to want to do a multi-day hike in the West McDonald Rangers in the NT. Her story has definitely empowered me.

Adrian Beck- written by Elizabeth

Adrian Beck is a children’s author who has written various books such as Fox Kid and Villain. He started his writing journey when his football coach told him he had an important role for him to do. That role was to hold the cord for the camera man recording the game! At first, he was quite upset, however, it sparked an interest in storytelling and led him to where he is today.

Catherine Laga’aia - written by Amelie

Catherine is a young actress who plays Moana in the live action film, Moana, which is coming out in July. She spoke about how her Mum convinced her to go for the role and she described how long the process was from auditioning to filming the movie. She told us a funny story of how she accidently punched Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in the face! I found her inspiring as a young leader in the movie industry.

Nick Hudson - written by Jun

He is the founder of the Push Up Challenge, a mental health fitness event that has engaged over 700,000 participants and raised over 50 million dollars for mental health in Australia alone.

It was not an easy journey for Nick. He was blackmailed by hackers, who shut down his push-up counting app, but this wasn’t the only struggle he faced in his life.

One of the most interesting things Nick mentioned is that he isn’t 100% human. He’s part cow! He had a heart problem, and he asked three doctors for their advice and every one of them said, “You have to get part of your heart replaced.” After the third doctor appointment, he had to have major heart surgery where they replaced his heart valve with a cow valve. It was a long road to recovery.

Nick Hudson is an inspirational leader that did not give up when things got hard.

Big Group Hug

Every child deserves to feel warm and comfortable. Unfortunately, many children in our community are living without the most basic necessities - warm clothing and bedding. This is where you come in!

We’re asking the RPS community to donate new and pre-loved winter clothing and bed linen for children aged 1-16 (sizes 3-16 most needed) for distribution to the families Big Group Hug supports in the cold winter months, and year-round.

Donations can be dropped off at the office.

Cross Country -

GRADES 3 - 6, PARENT HELPERS NEEDED!

As the school gears up for our upcoming cross-country event, we would like your help to help with marshalling on the day.

Grades: 3-6

Date: Tuesday 28th April (Term 2, Week 2)

Time: 8.50am - 11.00 am

Your role as a parent helper will involve guiding and directing students along the designated course, cheering them on, and ensuring their safety throughout the event. Your presence and support will not only contribute to the success of the cross-country event but will also create a positive and encouraging atmosphere for our young athletes. All helpers need to hold a working with children’s card and have completed the school induction. (Our wonderful Ally in the office can assist you)

If you can help out, please email me at kelli.zealley@education.vic.gov.au I will provide further details closer to the date.
