YEAR 6

FROM THE TEAM
This week, students proudly completed their My Place posters and really enjoyed presenting their work to the class. It was lovely to see their confidence grow as they shared their ideas and learning with others.
In Writing, students showcased what they have been learning through our Talk for Write program by completing their independent persuasive pieces. We were very pleased with the effort they put into expressing and organising their ideas.
A highlight of the week was the Colour Run! Students had an amazing time, showing great enthusiasm and enjoying the fun-filled experience with their classmates.
In Year 6, we continue to focus on building a respectful and supportive classroom environment. Students are encouraged to listen to one another, value different perspectives, and treat everyone with kindness and fairness. It has been wonderful to see them demonstrate these positive behaviours in their daily interactions.
We wish all families a safe and enjoyable holiday and look forward to welcoming students back, refreshed and ready for Term 2.
TERM 2 WELLBEING UPDATE
Dear Families,
As part of the Health Curriculum, our Year 6 classes will cover a discussion of puberty and changing male and female bodies in class during weeks 6 & 7 of term 2. Learning modules will cover topics including hormones, hygiene, growing bodies and boundaries – all as part of understanding puberty and the changing teenage body.
Below is a brief outline of the program contents that will be delivered to the students:
Part One: Hormones & Hygiene
Learn about the male and female anatomy, establishing good personal hygiene habits, the role of hormones in puberty and the emotional changes that come with puberty.
Part Two: Bodies & Boundaries
How the male and female body changes during puberty, menstruation and period management, understanding consent, personal boundaries and respectful relationships.
The lessons will include specific information relating to menstrual products and all female students will be offered a range of free product samples and information to help them understand the menstrual cycle and different ways to manage their periods.
As part of these lessons, we like parents to be actively involved by also communicating with their child about the changes that occur with puberty and adolescence.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the lesson details, or would like some guidance in discussing this topic with your children.
Thank you
REMINDERS
MOBILE PHONES
Friendly reminder, all phones brought to school by students are to be handed in to the office at the start of the day and collected after school when leaving. Students are not to have their phone in their bags. Students are also not permitted to use their phone on school grounds, even after school.
YR 7 ENROLMENTS
As your child is now in Grade 6, we encourage all families to begin looking into secondary school options for next year. Please take some time to explore local schools, attend open days, and discuss what environment will best support your child.
You can find your child’s zoned secondary school using the Victorian Government’s Find My School tool: https://www.findmyschool.vic.gov.au
