YEAR 2

FROM THE TEAM

What a fantastic way to finish the term! Students absolutely loved taking part in the Colour Run, where there were smiles, laughter, and plenty of bright splashes everywhere. The excitement continued with the Easter Bonnet Parade, with students proudly showing off their creative and colourful designs. It was wonderful to see such joy, enthusiasm, and school spirit from all students during these special events!

TERM LEARNING RECAP

LITERACY

In Reading, students enjoyed the mentor text Tiddalick the Frog. They built their vocabulary by learning and discussing new words, while also developing their comprehension skills by identifying the main idea and summarising texts clearly.

In Writing, students did a fantastic job innovating and writing their own story in Talk for Writing with a focus on writing in 3rd person and writing with past tense verbs. 

Next term, students will be learning their new Talk for Writing text – Anya and the Desert Witch.

MATHS

Students consolidating and reviewing the learning from this term. Next term, students will revisit the topic of place value to deepen their numerical understanding and fluency. Following this, they will begin exploring measurement, learning how to accurately measure length, mass, and capacity, and apply these skills in practical and engaging ways.

INQUIRY

Throughout the unit Journey Through Our Generations, students showed curiosity and enjoyment in learning about other people’s cultures and traditions. They appreciated discovering similarities and differences across communities, and many reflected on how cultural practices shape identity, family life, and community connections. The unit encouraged respect, empathy, and a deeper understanding of diversity, as students celebrated the richness of cultures both familiar and new.

WELLBEING

Students explored the concept of respect through Aboriginal perspectives, developing their understanding of what respect looks and sounds like, and why it is important in our community. There has been a strong focus on demonstrating respectful behaviours in our school environment. 

SOMETHING TO WOR

SHOELACES

Many of our children have laces on their shoes this year. Please work with your children to help them be independent when tying their own laces!  

HOME READING

Home readers should now be coming home nightly. We encourage all students to bring their reader bags and diaries each day to school. Please encourage your child to do the book entries on their own. Where it says ‘homework’, we kindly ask that they write their nights of reading so we can celebrate their success! 

LABELLING

A reminder to please ensure that hats, jumpers, jackets, drink bottles and lunch boxes are all clearly named. Items that are named are far more likely to be returned to you.
