YEAR 1

FROM THE TEAM   

In our last week of Term 1, we had some exciting events! 

First, our annual colour run and later in the week the Easter Bonnet Parade! Students had some time this week to make their own Easter Bonnet in the classroom for the Easter Bonnet Parade. They were looking forward to wearing their bonnets!            

In Reading, students practised identifying interesting words in a chosen mentor text and learned how to find the main idea of a story. This supported them in retelling the story in their own words. In Writing, students wrote their independent narrative piece of writing using the learnt toolkits of verbs and adverbs. During Phonics, students revised all 7.1 sounds through reading and writing tasks. In Mathematics, students revised both the “count up and count back” strategy to support with solving subtraction and addition sums.   

Last week was our school assembly to celebrate Term 1 Principal awards and student attendance There were many proud students that received certificates for their learning achievements and responsibility for their learning. Well done to our Year 1 students for showing our CARE values and being wonderful role models!

READING

WRITING 

• I can orally retell a narrative text. 
• I can describe a character using adjectives. 

PHONICS 

• I can identify the /ar/ digraph. 
• I can find and read words containing the /ar/  digraph. 
• I can recognise alternative /ar/ graphemes in /a/ and /al/. 

MATHS 

• I can name, list and use familiar units of time (such as hours, days, weeks and years) 
• I can discuss and decide whether events and activities take closer to an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year. 

REMINDERS 

TISSUES

We are kindly asking for donations of boxes of tissues for the classroom. These are always greatly appreciated especially for our upcoming winter season.
