Year Six

Year Six Geography Projects
Throughout Term One, Year Six students have been exploring the conceptual understanding that population demographics and social differences influence communities, as part of our Connecting to Place Unit of Inquiry. Throughout the unit, students have explored:
The factors that shape a population’s demographic globally.
The major economies around the world.
The demographic and social differences in countries around the world.
How geography and global connections shape the differences and relationships between countries.
To demonstrate their learning, students completed an inquiry project focused on a country in Asia. Students selected a country to investigate, mapping its location, major cities and key geographical features. They explored economic, demographic, social and cultural characteristics, including rights and access to resources and presented their findings using graphs and written explanations. Students also examined population-related challenges and researched organisations working to address these issues. Throughout the project, they made comparisons to Australia, considering similarities, differences and how Australia can support countries in the region.
The project concluded with students sharing their findings with their peers, reflecting on the connections between communities across Asia and Australia. Through this process, they gained a greater appreciation of how cultural, social and economic factors shape daily life, and developed a stronger sense of global citizenship and responsibility.
