Student Support and Wellbeing

Do it for Dolly Day

Here at Lakes Entrance Secondary College, we are extremely excited to celebrate Dolly's Dream. Our school community is committed to Dolly’s Dream and the movement to change the culture of bullying in Australia.  Being a regional town, we feel the weight of Dolly’s story, and the need to ensure this story is not repeated.

We hope to raise awareness of Dolly’s story, the effects of bullying and cyberbullying and ultimately strive for all Australians to be able to live happy and safe lives, free from bullying. We also hope to promote self-advocacy, and encourage our youth to ‘speak, even if your voice shakes’.

Our Wellbeing Team, along with our Student Representative Council and our Vocational Major students have planned exciting activites for our school community, to raise awareness of Dolly’s Dream. In the weeks leading up to May 8th our school community is encouraged to make kindness flowers, with anonymous kind messages for peers, colleagues, staff and students. These flowers will later be ‘planted’ on our oval to create a field of kindness.

Our Vocational Major students have dedicated time to host an array of activities on Wednesday 6th May, to raise awareness and funds for Dolly’s Dream. Students will be hosting a bake sale, running a karaoke competition, and holding butterfly origami classes, which will later be used to decorate the school and the photobooth for Friday’s event.

Our school community is then invited to wear blue free dress on Friday May 8th, and have their hair sprayed blue, in Dolly’s honour.  We will also be holding lunchtime activities including supplying blue jelly cups, decorating cookies with blue icing and lollies, and opportunities to utilise our Dollys Dream photo booth, with the sounds of country music playing in the background. We will end the day by creating our kindness field, where each individual is invited to ‘plant’ their kindness flower on the oval, followed by a whole school photo.

Dolly’s Dream have created a Bullying Hub, where teens, and parents and carers, can access free online support and resources. For further resources, and information about Dolly’s Dream please visit: Dolly's Dream | Home

Families are advised that for students who were unable to receive their scheduled vaccinations at the college, alternative opportunities are available through East Gippsland Shire Council.

Vaccination sessions will be held monthly at the Mechanics Hall, commencing Thursday 21st May.

These sessions provide another chance for students to stay up to date with their immunisations in a convenient local setting.

Please refer to the East Gippsland Shire Council brochure below for further details, including additional session dates and booking information.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the college.
