Supporting Every Learner at HPS

At HPS, we are committed to optimising the learning and wellbeing growth of every child. Inclusion at our school means ensuring all students are supported, challenged and able to experience success.

We use a whole-school approach that considers learning, behaviour and wellbeing together. Our teachers regularly review student progress and adjust their teaching to meet individual needs. Some students may benefit from extra support for a period of time, while others may be extended to further challenge their learning - and we plan carefully for both.

Over recent months, our leadership team has worked alongside an Inclusion Coach to strengthen our practices even further. Staff have been building their knowledge in identifying possible learning barriers, understanding different aspects of cognitive processing, and selecting strategies and resources that best support each student. This ensures our approach is intentional, responsive and based on evidence.

As part of this work, we have introduced an extended goal-setting template for students who would benefit from some additional targeted support to continue progressing confidently.

This allows us to respond strategically, monitor growth closely and evaluate the impact of our teaching.

For families of students using this template, it will be discussed and shared during our upcoming three-way goal setting conferences.

Importantly, whether students are working towards goals through our standard goal-setting process or a more targeted plan, every child has voice and agency in their learning. Each plan includes opportunities for students to contribute and reflect on their goals.

At HPS, our focus remains clear: every student, every level, every day.

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

A Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) integrates a school’s approach to learning, behaviour and wellbeing. MTSS includes a tiered continuum of instruction, support and intervention, and data-based decision making. When implemented in a school, MTSS enables identification of students requiring additional support. It includes instruction across three tiers of increasing intensity and tracking of student growth to monitor and improve program effectiveness.
