Reflection

The Season of Lent

Transfiguration -  Pitching Our Tent

In the Gospel of the Transfiguration, Peter is so overwhelmed by the moment that he wants to pitch a tent and stay on the mountain. Yet Jesus leads the disciples back down, back to ordinary life, relationships, and responsibilities.

This imagery invites us to reflect on where we choose to “pitch our tent” each day.

Seeing Christ More Clearly

The Transfiguration helps us recognise God not only in extraordinary moments,

but in everyday College life.

So we ask ourselves:

Am I pitching my tent in places of kindness, respect, and hope?

Do I settle myself in habits that lift others up?

Our true tent is pitched not on the mountain top, but in the way we treat one another in classrooms, corridors, and conversations.

Strength for the Journey

Just as the disciples were strengthened on the mountain for what lay ahead, we too draw courage for our challenges, assessments, deadlines, leadership, growth.

What matters is the ground we choose to stand on afterward: resilience, perseverance, and trust that we are not alone.

Transformation Through Openness

God’s simple instruction “Listen to Him” reminds us that real change happens when our hearts are open.

Students grow in learning and character; staff shape lives through teaching and care.

We are invited to ask:

Am I pitching my tent in attitudes that help me become who I am called to be?

The transfiguration reminds us all that where we choose to pitch our tent shapes the kind of community we build and the people we become.

 International Women’s Day

This week we acknowledged International Women’s Day, a day that invites us to honour the strength, dignity, leadership, and contributions of women in our families, our community, and across the world.

As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, this day holds particular importance. We are called to form young men who value equality, show deep respect for women, challenge injustice, and build relationships grounded in dignity and compassion. Edmund Rice himself was shaped by the strong women in his life, and his mission continues to invite us to recognise and celebrate the women who guide, teach, inspire, and support our community each day.

May our students grow into men who honour the women around them not only today, but every day through their words, actions, and attitude.

Proud of our future leaders

This week we received heartfelt and uplifting feedback from both residents and staff at Killara Pathways following the first Men’s Shed visit on Tuesday, 24 February. Our St Pius X students represented the College with maturity, kindness, and genuine care qualities that reflect the very best of our community.

Students in attendance:

•   Oscar Roberts

•   Louis Southan

•   Will McIlveen

•   Franko Zaknic

•   Riley Siu

•   Francesco Mazzaferro

•   Lucas Currie

Residents spoke with great affection about the students, sharing comments such as:

'You should be so proud of those boys. If I were their mother, I would be glowing with pride. They brought a wonderful spark to our day. You should be so pleased to be their teacher - I know I would be. These must be the most generous and kind boys we’ve ever had here.'

The staff at Killara Pathways echoed this appreciation, noting:

'Wow! These boys are great! We’re so excited to see how this year goes, it’s looking really positive already.'

We celebrate these young men for the way they represented St Pius X College with humility, warmth, and leadership. Their presence made a meaningful impact, and we are incredibly proud of the example they continue to set.

Thank you to Miss Zanko for sharing this story with me so that I can share it with our community.

Congratulations to our Junior School academic achievers from 2025 Semester Two report

Following our earlier recognition of students who achieved an Outstanding overall average in their Semester 2 Learning Attributes, we were delighted on Monday 2 March to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our Junior School students for their hard work, growth, and commitment throughout Semester 2, 2025.

During the celebration, students were encouraged to continue setting high standards for themselves and to support and inspire a friend to join them on this journey so that even more students can be acknowledged at our next event.

We look forward to celebrating many more students after our first reporting cycle in 2026, as we continue to recognise the habits and attitudes that shape strong learners and kind community members.

We warmly invite families to bake or cook something for the day - cakes, slices, brownies, biscuits, or any homemade treats are most welcome.

Boxes will be sent home in the week of 9 March for those who register. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled with ingredients.

Your support makes this special tradition possible. Please Register here if you would like to contribute to the cake stall and we will send a box home with your son.

Your treats can be sent to school on the Friday 13 March - please leave at Student Reception. If delivering on the day, please go straight to the Cake stall.

Cocurricular Program - A Triumphant Weekend for St Pius X Sport

Last Saturday was a remarkable day for St Pius X College, with strong performances across both ISA basketball and ISA cricket. We are proud to celebrate five basketball teams progressing to the Grand Finals, alongside our 1st XI cricket team, who secured a comprehensive victory to earn their place in the Grand Final.

For those teams whose seasons concluded on the weekend, there is much to admire. Reports from coaches highlight the courage, resilience, and sportsmanship shown by all basketball teams who narrowly missed out on a Grand Final place. Our 2nd XI cricket team, despite entering the match as minor premiers, displayed tremendous determination, fighting right to the final ball. Although defeated in the last over, their spirit, humility, and pride in their effort were outstanding.

Congratulations to all players, teams, and coaches for their commitment, teamwork, and dedication throughout the season. You have represented the College with distinction.

We wish all grand finalists the very best for the weekend ahead. Please know that we are proud of you regardless of the result. A season is never defined by one game, but by the growth, effort, and character shown from the first round to the last.
