Middle School

We are into the swing of things and our year 9s and 10s have experienced a busy term 1.

Our Year 9 students are stepping up to the challenges of Year 9 such as undertaking NAPLAN with maturity and confidence. They have also been presented with information on Early Access to VCE that will be offered to them in 2027. Following this presentation, we will have an upcoming assembly that unpacks VCE/VM options available for our students here at LSC and what they need to start preparing in order to have their pathways lined up.

The Year 9 Engagement Team is currently working busily on allocating student leadership positions for the year. Leadership is an important part of student voice and agency at our college, and we are excited to see students contribute to the Middle School community.

We are also very excited to be planning the Year 9 Camp to Tasmania. This will be a highlight of the year and will provide students with valuable opportunities to build relationships, develop independence, and challenge themselves in new environments.

Our year 10 students got to experience the Formula One Grand Prix. The weather was spectacular as was the opportunity to see the drivers in person on stage. Year 10s are currently preparing for their upcoming Work Experience placements. Work experience is a valuable opportunity for students to explore areas of interest and begin making connections between school and the world beyond it. Work Experience will run for one week at the end of Term 2.

An ongoing focus for Middle School is ensuring that all students:

  • are in correct school uniform,
  • have all required learning resources each day,
  • arrive on time to every class, ready to learn with a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude and
  • are supported during their time in years 9 & 10.

These expectations are not optional. Consistency in these areas supports learning, reduces disruption, and helps students develop habits that will serve them well throughout their schooling.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind families that:

  1. All students are required to be in the correct uniform every day. This includes wearing the correct school shoes. Details on our school uniform can be found within the Uniform Policy on the College’s website.
  2. Students must bring their laptops to school each day, fully charged. Students are responsible for protecting their device, storing it in a locked locker, and transporting it in the free protective bag provided. The laptop remains the property of the college and is loaned to students as a tool for learning. Any deliberate damage to a laptop is considered damage to school property.
  3. Attendance impacts learning. If a student is going to be absent from school, please provide a medical certificate (where applicable) and contact the College of the days/dates of absences.
  4. We have a wonderful and responsive Year 9 & 10 Student Support Team that take pride on building relationships

Thank you to our families for your ongoing partnership and support. I look forward to a positive and productive year for all Middle School students.

Kind regards,

Mary-Anne Lilikakis
