Connect Crew

What a wonderful and productive fortnight it has been in the Connect program. Over the past two weeks, students have taken time to reflect on the start of the school year and the progress they have already made. Through open discussions and activities, students have set personalised goals and developed a clearer understanding of the expectations that come with being part of the Connect Crew. This process supports students to build self awareness, take ownership of their learning.
One of the most rewarding aspects of this fortnight has been watching new friendships develop. As students settle into their Connect groups, they have been sharing stories, experiences, challenges, and successes. These conversations are an important part of Connect, with helping students to develop empathy, strengthen communication skills, and understand that everyone brings different perspectives and experiences.
Our Connect space has also been busy with some hands on projects. Students worked together to clear out our small veggie patch, preparing it for a fresh start as we plan to plant new autumn and winter vegetables in the coming weeks. Activities like this provide opportunities for teamwork, responsibility, and patience.
Lego Club continues to be a popular lunchtime activity, with a fantastic turnout of students attending regularly, which is running each Tuesday and Thursday in K2. It has been particularly great to see leadership emerging within this space. A special mention goes to Connect Crew legend Jack Handley, who has demonstrated initiative and leadership in supporting others and helping the club run smoothly.
On Monday, a small group of students also worked collaboratively to cook and prepare food for the Year 8 Challenge Week lunch. This was a fantastic example of cooperation, planning, and teamwork in action, with students supporting one another to complete a shared task for their fellow peers.
Another initiative this fortnight has been the formation of a small group responsible for caring for our Connect fish tank. Students have begun learning how to maintain the tank and ensure the fish are well looked after. This has been a great opportunity for students to develop a sense of responsibility and pride in caring for a shared space.
It has been particularly pleasing to see our new Year 7 students engaging enthusiastically with the program and embracing the opportunities Connect provides. Equally rewarding has been seeing our older students step into mentoring roles, supporting younger peers and helping them feel welcome within the community. These connections help build a strong sense of belonging and demonstrate the positive culture we strive to create within Connect.
We look forward to another fortnight of growth, connection, and learning together.
