Excellent work completing your cardboard prototypes in Integrated Systems Engineering. We have now begun engineering our wooden automata toys with clearance adjustments made by each student to allow the cam and cam follower to fit inside their housing! (Editor's Note: I didn't understand a word in that last sentence. But how proud is Mr Marsh?)

What a clever bunch of engineers!!
Did you know that microorganisms are necessary to produce many of our favourite foods and beverages through a process called fermentation?? Some examples are: yoghurt, cheese, soy sauce, kombucha and sauerkraut. Not to mention a staple product in many homes - BREAD!
This week in Bakery Café we learnt about all the factors that encourage yeast to ferment and those factors that will prevent it from fermenting. It is important to understand this science so that we can have success when we make: pizza, cinnamon scrolls, focaccia and many of the other delicious recipes that use yeast.

We set up a scientific experiment in the classroom where we added yeast to four plastic bottles with varying water temperatures and food source quantities (sugar).

We measured the rate of fermentation by observing how much activity occurred in the bottles and whether our balloons inflated or not due to the production of carbon dioxide gas!
It was a memorable lesson learnt by all which allowed our budding bakers to produce the most delicious Stromboli and Cinnamon Scrolls in the days that followed!

Creativity has been buzzing in A Block lately, and it’s safe to say that time truly flies when you’re having fun. Our talented emerging artists have been hard at work exploring their ideas, experimenting with materials, and transforming their thoughts into powerful visual expressions.

Throughout the term, students have been developing their ability to think critically about art and connect their visual language with deeper ideas and meanings. Each artwork tells a story, reflecting unique perspectives. From vibrant paintings and detailed drawings to striking photography and innovative digital artworks to mention a few, students have been exploring a wide range of art forms. These experiences help build their arts literacy while strengthening their ability to communicate in ways that go beyond words.
As part of Unit 1, Outcome 1, for Year 11 Media, students have been learning about ‘Media Representation’. In class, we have been learning about the important role the media plays in shaping our society and the values and beliefs of audiences. Students understand that everything we see in the Media is simply a construction, a representation of reality achieved through processes such as selection, omission, codes and conventions.
In both Mr Hawkins and Mr Pollock’s classes this term, students completed a practical task to ‘Construct a Representation’ of their choosing. Students were tasked with taking an original photo to then construct a representation of their choice in a print-based media form.

It was great to see some of the creativity explored in this mini-task, allowing students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.
