We've made some small but positive changes to yard duty arrangements involving Tirkandi and Active Lunch this year. This was an initiative that the (2025) Student Ambassadors were advocating for towards the end of last year.
Semester 1: Tirkandi will be open at lunch times on a Monday, Tuesday and Friday starting from Week 2! Tirkandi will then close during the second semester.
Semester 2: Active Lunch. We will then run during T3 and T4. Again, operating on three days per week, consistent with how it was structured last year. Rowell and Mellor sharing on Monday, Torrens on Wednesday and Fisher on Friday.
This change has been made to provide an additional lunchtime option for students who may not always wish to engage in physical activities. We feel this is a positive step that supports student voice and wellbeing, while offering choice and balance during lunch. Having the library space open offers students a calm environment where they might want to read, draw, play board or card games, or simply enjoy some quiet time.

This week, Lockleys North proudly launched our involvement in the 2026 CE Student Forums, beginning with an inspiring first meeting on Monday afternoon alongside Martin Westwell, Chief Executive of the South Australian Department for Education, and students from across the state.
Over the past four years, learners across South Australia have consistently demonstrated their strength as partners in innovation. Their ideas, questions, and leadership have meaningfully shaped the Strategy for Public Education, impacting schools and communities right across the state.
In 2026, this momentum continues as students step into the role of action researchers informing and influencing learning within their schools and networks. A key focus this year is deepening our understanding of Learning Mode and Performance Mode. Primary students will explore how recognising these modes supports metacognition, while secondary students will investigate how learning mode can enhance the use of GenAI tools, such as EdChat, for genuine learning rather than performance.
Our Lockleys North students represented the school exceptionally well. They were highly engaged, contributed thoughtfully, and embraced the opportunity to collaborate and learn alongside peers from across South Australia.
We look forward to seeing how their insights and leadership continue to shape learning at our school throughout the year.
