Physical Education

Our Foundation students have been focusing on developing their ability to take turns and participate positively in group activities. Through a range of fun and interactive experiences, students have been learning how to share equipment, wait patiently, and encourage their peers. Activities such as animal movements, obstacle courses, and introductory throwing tasks have helped students build their coordination while reinforcing these important social skills. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they learn how to work and play together.
In Years 1 and 2, students have been continuing to strengthen their fundamental movement skills, which are essential for future participation in sports and physical activity. This term, there has been a strong focus on developing the single-arm strike, particularly through tennis-based activities. Students have been practising control, coordination, and technique while engaging in a variety of modified games that make learning both fun and accessible. It has been great to see their improvement and enthusiasm during these sessions.
Our Year 3 and 4 students have been building on their fundamental movement skills by applying them in invasion-style games. A key focus has been on understanding how to move effectively within game situations, including changing speed, finding space, and moving without the ball to create opportunities. Students have also been developing their soccer skills, working on passing, dribbling, and positioning. Their ability to transfer skills into game contexts has shown great progress throughout the term.
In Years 5 and 6, students have been challenged to take their learning further by developing their strategic thinking and game awareness. Through participation in sports such as netball and soccer, students have been analysing game situations, making decisions, and working collaboratively as a team. There has been a strong emphasis on breaking down plays, understanding tactics, and applying these strategies during gameplay. It has been impressive to see students thinking critically and supporting one another to improve performance.
Overall, it has been a highly productive term in PE, with students demonstrating excellent effort, sportsmanship, and a willingness to challenge themselves. We look forward to continuing to build on these skills in the coming term.
