Week 3 Term 3
We had a great time last Tuesday at our Kaboom Sports afternoon to celebrate the beginning of the upcoming Paris Olympic Games!
We will be attending Mass at St Francis Xavier Church on Tuesday 13th August (week 5) at 9:15am with 3/4L. We invite all families to come along and pray with us. The Gospel reading on this day is about the Parable of the Lost Sheep which we have been learning about in class. We have been reimagining the story to fit a modern day context.
Writing - Since the beginning of term 3 we have been writing a variety of different poems. We have learnt to use different poetic devices to write Haiku, Shape and Acrostic poems. The students have loved the creativity poetry writing requires while keeping to a structure. We have seen so many great ideas come to life. We're looking forward to sharing some of these with you shortly.
Education in Faith - Last week we learnt about the Parable of the Lost Sheep. We analysed the story carefully and looked into it's historical context. We learnt the reasons why Jesus told this parable and the lessons we can learn from it. As a class we then came up with different ideas in re-imagining the story for a modern day context. There were some amazing ideas! The Parable of the Lost Puzzle Piece, The Parable of the Missing Library Book and The Parable of the Missing Cake Ingredient were just some of the suggestions. This story will also double as our Gospel story when we attend Mass on August 13th.
Maths - To begin our unit on Fractions we moved throughout the school looking for fractions in our environment. We also looked at different countries flags from the Olympics and then created our own flags and identified the fraction of each colour on the flag i.e. 1/3 of the flag is red, 1/6 of the flag is green.
Kind regards, Brendan
