FAITH MATTERS

MRS ALISON WRIGHT - DIRECTOR OF FAITH & MISSION

Hello and a warm welcome back to Term 3!

Little things mean a lot - this was the theme of this morning's prayer for the Staff Chapel.

During a lunchtime conversation this week, I was reminded of the power of small things people do for each other that means a lot. This may occur in the home, in families, our exchanges with neighbours, or even with strangers down the street. In his article “Little Things Mean a Lot”, Jim Quillinan explains that “big isn’t always the most important, it is not always where we make our mark”. He used the example of how Jesus reached out and took the hand of an ‘unclean’ person and visited the home of the person who was ‘not acceptable’ as little things that mean a lot. The Parable of the Mustard Seed describes how the smallest of seeds becomes the biggest of trees. Jesus assures us that the Kingdom of God is about mustard seeds - it is often the smallest of things that makes its mark.

So continue to ‘do’ the small things. You never know how ‘big’ they are to someone else!

A huge congratulations to the students and staff who participated in the Ration Challenge towards the end of last term! Most completed a three-day challenge with over $1800 raised for refugees.

JJAMM Week will be held during Week 4 this term. Another JJAMM-packed week will be organised for staff and students, including Feast Day Mass, hot jam donuts, pJJAMMa day and the annual Walkathon finishing off the week. More details to follow.

Staff will be involved in a Catholic Identity Professional Learning Day on August 15th. This day will be facilitated by Sr Rita Malavisi rsj. The focus for the day will be on the Humble Beginnings program. This program is designed to provide a deeper insight into the charism of Mary MacKillop, Julian Tenison Woods, and the Sisters of Saint Joseph and the values they uphold.

We are looking forward to having Sr Rita back in our community for this day!

God, help us to be very attentive to the little things in life. Help us to just be careful not to despise them or to view them all as hassles. But like Jesus to be ready for those interruptions, ready for those additions, ready for those changes. Those little things are on the way to the big goals that we have. Amen.

Jesus Light of the world, guide us

St Joseph, journey with us

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop, pray for us.
