Year 2/3
Year 2/3 have been exploring the many ways we can use non-standard partitioning to represent three-digit numbers. Having played a game of ‘Straw Darts’, the children added up their scores and then represented their numbers using MAB materials.
In English, the class has begun a new novel, entitled “Pippi Longstocking”, written by Astrid Lindgren. In addition to examining the characters and events in the novel, we will be looking at researching Sweden and how people live there, as we have recognised some of the cultural differences in the novel.
Outcomes:
MA1-RWN-02 reasons about representations of whole numbers to 1000, partitioning numbers to use and record quantity values
MA2-WM-01 develops understanding and fluency in mathematics through exploring and connecting mathematical concepts, choosing and applying mathematical techniques to solve problems, and communicating their thinking and reasoning coherently and clearly.
EN1-REFLU-01 sustains reading unseen texts with automaticity and prosody and self-corrects errors
EN1-UARL-01 understands and responds to literature by creating texts using similar structures, intentional language choices and features appropriate to the audience and purpose
EN2-REFLU-01 sustains independent reading with accuracy, automaticity, rate and prosody suited to purpose, audience and meaning
EN2-RECOM-01 reads and comprehends texts for wide purposes using knowledge of text structures and language, and by monitoring comprehension
