Kinder/Year 1
Olympic Fever certainly hit K1 this week and it's probably the first time in their lives that a sporting event like this has taken place which captures everyone's attention.
During Maths, students are participating in activities called the Potato Olympics and these will continue next week. Our potato athletes will take part in a variety of activities (sport events) which we are using to learn how to measure in variety of ways.
We will measure water displacement, length, weight, time. Our potato athletes are very worn out, but they have the weekend to relax in the Potato Olympic Village over the weekend in preparation for next week’s maths events. These potatoes are elite athletes: they will be rolled (sprints), thrown (shot put, archery), dropped (balance beam, diving), poked with toothpicks, and generally handled more than your average potato. But they are providing us with lots of fun, measurable data and a bit of healthy team competition.
