Let Us Rejoice
As a child, one of my favourite hymns was based on Psalm 118:24, "This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." There are a lot of passages throughout the Bible that talk about joy and rejoicing, such as Philippians 4:4, "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice." Sometimes when I read these passages I struggle to rejoice and be glad always and to rejoice in every situation, and yet, that is what God calls us to do on a daily basis.
When we dig deeper into what the Bible says about joy and rejoicing, we discover that genuine joy is knowing that God has a purpose for us, regardless of trials and tribulations. In fact, trials and tribulations are things in life we can never avoid, but God uses difficult times to help us produce patience and endurance in our lives. Knowing that God is doing something specific in our lives during difficult times and that He is doing what is best for us, helps us respond to all situations with genuine joy. Life’s trials are certainly not fun, but we can react to those painful situations with joy and gratitude if we understand that God is demonstrating His love for us through those circumstances.
As we head into Term 3, there is much joy to be found in the good times, but also in the struggles and challenges that face us. For our Year 12s, there is much joy ahead of them, despite the stress and frustrations of SACs and final assessments ahead of them. The joy comes in knowing that through patience and endurance, God's purpose for their life beyond school will soon be fulfilled. For all of our students, there is much for which we can be grateful.
My challenge for everyone throughout Term 3 is to start each day rejoicing in God's love and goodness and to give thanks every day for the opportunities which await you.
