PFA News

Dear RMPS Parents and Carers,

Welcome back for Term 3! Trusting that everyone had a great mid term break and are feeling ready to tackle the rigours of the new term despite the chilly time of year!

The movie night is nearly upon us! – Make sure you get your tickets for both the sausages and the movie! (They are bought separately in different areas on Compass) There will be some treats available for purchase on the night also.

We have been getting quite a few questions on the event, please see the FAQ’s in the following pages to see if that can help you find answers – otherwise feel free to reach out to us through the PFA email link: rmps.pfa@gmail.com.

There are a few roles still be filled for operating the movie night, if you have time to help, please check out what’s left to do here: https://signup.com/go/yREVAzv

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Also a reminder that the volunteer survey is still open, a big thank you to those that have put their hand up so far. Please consider taking the time to help us build the supporter based needed to conduct our activities for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025. Compass has sent a link previously but you can also access the questions posed through the link below and think of how you would like to contribute to our children’s future!

Movie Night Frequently Asked Question’s (FAQ’s)

  • Can I bring my own food?

We kindly request that no external food is brought into the hall except for water bottles due to some students with severe allergies.

You are welcome to bring and eat your own food outside the hall before the movie screening, it just cannot be taken into any of the school buildings.

  • Is this a supervised event?

This is a RMPS family only event. It is expected that a student attends with at least one guardian. Students cannot be dropped off or left to watch the movie on their own.

  • Why is the ticket price for both adults and kids (over 4 years old) the same price?

To screen a movie in a public place (just about anywhere that is not your home) you must buy the commercial screening rights from the distributor who owns them. These rights entitle you to screen the movie in a public venue. The ticket and snack prices were minimised to focus on covering the price of the licence fee while making this as accessible as possible for families.

  • How will the movie be screened?

Using the halls projector and sound facilities.

The PFA hopes everyone enjoys the company of others in the community and can make stronger connections on the night.

  • If there are no physical tickets, how will the PFA know I have booked and paid?

The PFA will be provided with a list of the ticket’s purchased, this list will be with volunteers at the door, to mark you off as you arrive.

  • What snacks will be for sale and how is the cost?

Popcorn $1.00

Chips - $1.00

Lollipops – 50c

Lolly Bags - $1.00

Cans of Soft Drink – $1.50

Juice Box – $1.00

Bottles of water – $1.50

  • How can snacks, drinks and additional sausages be purchased on the night?

Sales will be accepted through the schools eftpos machine and cash. Snacks will be available to purchase before the movie until sold out.

  • Will the heaters be in the hall?

There are reverse cycle air conditioners in the hall, the set up volunteers plan to switch them on in the afternoon. As it is winter, the PFA suggests dressing warmly. Bring your oodie if you have one!

  • Where will we sit to watch the movie?

Please bring bean bags, blankets or cushions to get comfy (the concrete floor is not heated) while watching the movie on the floor of the hall. You are welcome to bring low backed outdoor chairs but please do not bring folding or camping chairs as you will block of view of the people sitting behind you.

  • Will pass outs be available on the night?

Yes, pass outs will be available on the night.

  • Are there toilets close by?

There are toilets next door to the hall. It is a guardian’s responsibility to supervise their kids in the toilets and the waiting area while the movie is being screened.

There will be a volunteer at the door between the hall and the toilets whose role is to advise if all the toilets and waiting area is occupied.

  • Is there more than one prize for best dressed movie – goers?

There are several prizes for people who dress up in Wonka themed attire.

Prizes will be awarded at the end of the movie.

Dressing up is not compulsory.

  • How do I purchase tickets on Compass?

Select: Course Confirmation and Payment, choose Willy Wonka Family Night.

Each ticket is $5.00 per attendee (4 years and under are free)

  • How do I pre-order sausage sizzle sandwiches on Compass?

Select: Canteen choose Family Movie Night.

Each sausage in bread costs $3.00. Please pre order on Compass by Wednesday 24th July to assist with catering.

The PFA will be provided with a list of sausage sandwiches which were pre-ordered, this list will be with volunteers and will be marked off as you receive your order.

Information: PFA – What is it? And why is it important?

The Parents & Friends Association (PFA) is a group of volunteer parents and carers who help organise events and fundraising activities for RMPS, welcome families and bring people together from within the community. This helps us all connect more closely with our school and each other while raising vital funds for school improvements. With every dollar raised, the opportunity for our children grows just that little bit more. Without volunteers, there would be no PFA, hence we encourage everyone to become a member and help us to kick some amazing goals this year!

It does not matter if you can spare 10 min or 10 hours, being involved will help you and your children to have the best environment we can achieve in our community.

Working in cooperation with the Principal and School Council, the PFA’s aims are to:

  • contribute to the wellbeing of the school community
  • encourage the participation of all parents and carers in the life of the school and the education of their children
  • provide opportunities for parents and carers to
    •  get to know each other,
    • be informed about their child’s school
    • extend their understanding of school operations
    • build their knowledge of general education policy
  • contribute to proposals on school policy and other educational issues (as identified or discussed with the Principal or School Council)
  • raise funds for the benefit of the school

As a registered association, it is a requirement that the PFA has a minimum of three office bearers (executives) – President, Secretary and Treasurer. The current PFA executives are:

  • Lindsay Gamble (President) – father of Tahlia (2G)
  • David Wingate (Secretary) – father of Alister (FS)
  • Bård Sæter (Treasurer) – father of Madeleine (5G) and Aksel (1R)

FREE Working with Children Check (WWCC)

Ever thought about volunteering at a school (e.g., excursion, swimming, classroom) or PFA (e.g., disco, colour run) activity or event, or even at your child’s sports or dance club, but haven’t been able to because you don’t have a Working with Children Check (WWCC)?  Well, you can get a volunteer WWCC for FREE!  Applying for one takes about 15-20 minutes and you can do it online via Working with Children Check (service.vic.gov.au).  Once you have completed the online application you will receive an application receipt, followed by a card after the check is completed.  (Note: We recommend you do this using your mobile phone because of the photo process etc.)

What you'll need to do

  • Prove your identity with documents using your phone. The online application shows you which ones.
  • Fill out the online application form
  • Consent to Service Victoria passing your info on to the Working with Children Check (WWCC) Unit Victoria (Department of Justice and Community Safety) to process your WWCC application.  (Services Victoria does not keep your information, they just pass it on.)

Your Working with Children check

  • The Working with Children Check Victoria screening process looks at:
  • Your criminal record in all Australian states and territories, including any charges, regardless of the outcome
  • Your professional conduct as determined by these groups, and
  • Whether you're required to report under sex offender legislation

If you have applied for a WWCC but are unsure whether your card will arrive before you want to volunteer at an event, please speak to the school office about possible options.  A check may take between 3-12 weeks to be processed.

Copies of WWCC cards are kept on file by the school for compliance and a Working with Children Check is required for doing child-related work which includes volunteering. Please provide the school office with a copy of your card.

If you would like to get a WWCC card but are not confident doing this yourself, please contact the school office for assistance by calling 9890 2372.
