Our snow programs have begun this week. The weather held out for the downhill day on Wednesday, and while it wasn't as rainy / snowy as predicted, the wind was still really strong. The day was completed with much success and only one, non-serious injury (thank goodness, as snow sports are known to be high risk). It is worth reminding all participants, in both programs, that it is vital to have ambulance cover with Ambulance Victoria. Ambulance cover in health insurance policies only covers transport costs to the nearest facility, leaving people with huge bills if they have to be transported to Albury/Wodonga, or worse still, air lifted.
The cross country program was less fortunate with the weather, with a bit of rain in the afternoon. Fingers crossed temperatures will drop and more snow will top up the great coverage that is already there.
For those not participating in the snow programs, school is still on and running, with classes prepared and planned for students who don't attend the downhill ski days.
NAPLAN results have arrived and been sent home to families with students in Years 7 and 9. It was pleasing to see the results that our students achieved this year. Our Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) set targets in Reading, Writing and Numeracy. While we did not achieve all of the targets we set, our results were still very good. Each of these measures achieved better results than similar schools throughout Victoria and schools in our network. Well done to the primary schools, who master the foundational education skills, setting the students up for success in their secondary years of education. Well done also to all of our staff! While growth in each student’s learning is so important, and the main focus of every school, it is also the care and effort that all of our staff make to ensure that every student feels like they belong at our school. Attention to the wellbeing of our students helps to support their learning. Well done also to the students – the way they approached the NAPLAN tests was second to none; they were prepared to try their best and give things a go.
Thanks to Bu Ita Rose, Andrew Greenfield and the students and parents who attended an information session on Tuesday night. The next trip to Indonesia is proposed for 2025 (dependent on participant numbers). Ita is already working on planning this amazing opportunity for the students who study Indonesian at our school. This trip is always a highlight for our students, and a great way to immerse themselves in the culture and language. Having an expat and native speaker of the language is an incredible bonus to our school and opportunity for our students.
The DET’s 2024 Parent, Caregiver and Guardian Opinion Survey will be available to complete online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024.
The survey seeks feedback on school climate, community engagement in learning and teaching practices for student engagement and outcomes and we invite all families to complete this survey (1 family member per family).
The survey link will be emailed to parents, caregivers or guardians, through a Compass email on Monday 29 July 2024.
A friendly reminder that Thursday the 1st of August is a student free day. Staff will be at school completing professional practice activities, and attending meetings.
