Year 11s Danced the Night Away
On Saturday 15 June, the Year 11s celebrated the end of Semester 1 at their Dinner Dance at the East Fremantle Yacht Club. The students were greeted by teachers at the door and made their way through to the formal function with a stop at the mocktail station. They enjoyed a photo booth set up by two Year 10 Photography students; Charlotte Parker and Amanda Tang. The Year 11s really appreciated the hard work of these two girls, thank you Charlotte and Amanda for your time and expertise! Thank you also to our photography teacher, Ms Alexis van Leeuwen for allowing us to use the specialised photography equipment.
After dinner, many of the students danced the night away. These events would not happen without our generous staff giving up their time to supervise. Thank you to Mrs Jeanette Sealy, Ms Shannon Armitage, Mr Jim Shackleton, Mrs Fiona Bassett, Mr Peter Gault, Mr Greg Hill, Ms Brooke Haendel, Mrs Christine Kroeger, Ms Victoria McGiveron, and Ms Ariel Mroz. Thank you to our Year 12 Functions Captain, Abbey Parker, for all her work helping to put the evening together. The Year 11 students looked fantastic in their semi formal attire and are to be commended for the way in which they conducted themselves during the evening. We wish the Year 11s all the best for the semester ahead!
TLG Tour Fostering Connections in Remote Communities
Having been involved with the Teach Learn Grow (TLG) tour since 2014, students and staff were able to resume the tour after a brief hiatus due to COVID-19 and flooding in Fitzroy Crossing. Travelling through the breathtaking landscape of WA’s north, the group journeyed to Fitzroy Crossing during the school holidays to spend time with young people in remote communities. Students and staff were split into three groups, visiting Fitzroy Valley District High School, Bayulu Remote Community School, and Muludja Remote Community School. At these schools, the students and staff engaged with the communities by fostering connections and helping the schools achieve their educational goals.
Students across the three groups found that, while the schools were close together in proximity, they had completely different experiences at each location. At Muludja, students learned about various practices of the local Indigenous culture, from children being able to fish to learning how to build and start a fire. At Bayulu, students worked on mentoring different year groups and sharing their experiences and life in Perth with the students.
While visiting the beautiful landscapes of the Kimberley region, students and staff were fortunate to explore Mimbi Caves and local hiking trails. They also joined Bayulu’s end-of-term celebrations, participating in a competitive laser tag game and dancing away at the school disco.
On behalf of the students and staff who attended the trip, we would like to thank Fitzroy Valley District High School, Bayulu Remote Community School, and Muludja Remote Community School for welcoming the TLG tour into their communities and helping to shape an unforgettable experience.

Welcoming our Little Saints!
Prior of the official opening of our childcare, Little Saints hosted a Community Open Morning to welcome families, community members, and little explorers to discover our space. Our little visitors had a blast exploring the vibrant spaces and getting their faces painted, while community members met our wonderful team and learnt more about the philosophy of Little Saints.
Thank you to all those who visited and kicked off the start of the Little Saints journey! We were delighted to officially open the doors this week!

A Taste of France: Year 9 Students at Maison St Honoré
On Monday 17 June, the Year 9 French students stepped into Maison St Honoré, a charming French café nestled in the Swan Valley. The air buzzed with excitement as they embarked on a cultural adventure. The students indulged in a feast of crêpes, croissants, and delicate macarons. But it wasn’t just about the food, it was a chance to practise their French skills. Armed with phrases they had learnt in class, the students confidently placed their orders in French and engaged with the café staff, who responded with warmth and encouragement.
Reflecting on their experience, Year 9 students Toby Riches, Grace Shackleton and Chloe Kent all agreed that it was a gratifying and enjoyable experience where vocabulary and grammar came alive in a real-world context.
Toby said "We were very lucky to go to the Swan valley for the French Excursion. The setting of the café was very French which set the tone for a nice lunch. We enjoyed croissants, and crepes in the sun. Overall, a great day."
"Our visit to Maison Saint Honoré in Swan Valley was truly amazing. The staff were delightful, and the food was exceptional. We were fortunate to savour delicious treats such as crêpes, macarons, and croissants," said Grace.
"The excursion was a really great experience for all of us. I loved being able to spend time with my friends and enjoy all the lovely food. Plus, it was a really great way for us to practise having conversations in French. I'm so grateful that I was able to attend the excursion," said Chloe.
ASC Makes Waves at Champion Lakes
Now halfway through the regatta season, the ASC rowing squad have been having fun competing out at Champion Lakes. The program develops our rowers' technique as a priority over strength, and we have been rewarded with 14 gold medals over the 2 weekends. For some of our senior rowers, this is their fifth season, and their experience has helped our novice rowers make a fabulous start to their rowing careers.
Rowing training continues ahead of our regattas early in Term 3.
Huge thank you to Nic Tejchman, our Head Coach, for all the time he spends with our squad.
Sustainability Club Makes a Difference
The Sustainability Club would like to thank everyone in the community who has saved up their plastic bread tags and brought them to us to be recycled. We have now collected enough to send our first box to Aussie Bread Tags for Wheelchairs.
We would like to encourage our community to please continue collecting plastic bread tags and empty plastic soy sauce sushi fish (and caps). These items will be used in a current Sustainability Club art project during Semester 2, 2024.
Collected items can be dropped off at Nexus-J and Nexus-S.
