Principal's Report
Dear families,
As mentioned in the prayer section of today’s newsletter, yesterday was the feast day of Mary of the Cross (Mary MacKillop), Australia’s only saint. Mary was an amazing spirit who brought education to the impoverished Catholic communities throughout South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales by opening many schools. Mary had a passion to provide education to those in need as a way of improving their futures. While I would argue that the complexities of providing education in the 21st Century are far more nuanced, the fact is that many Catholic schools would not be in existence if it was not for people of great strength like Mary.
In reflecting on the modern day complexities we face daily, I would like to remind all parents and carers to check out the link at the top of our webpage to School TV (https://stbc.vic.schooltv.me/) . School TV is an online platform that provides families with short videos on matters such as Cybersafety, Mental Health, School Survival, Healthy Bodies and Positive Parenting. Because parenting doesn’t come with instructions, SchoolTV is a wellbeing resource that can support you in the challenges relating to modern-day parenting.
As a school, we are on a cycle of continual improvement and to enable us to know how we can best serve your needs, we need feedback. Some parents would have received a randomly generated email from an organisation titled SRC Insight (please search your inbox) which requests parents to complete a survey which collects feedback on how we are doing. The survey asks parents how St Brigid’s is doing in the following areas: Catholic Identity, Community Engagement, Learning and Teaching, Student Wellbeing, and Leadership. I ask that if you received this email that you take the time to provide us with this valuable feedback.
Congratulations to our Senior Netball Team who have won through to the State Titles on 29 August in Melbourne. We are also sending our intermediate Netball Team to a National Carnival in Bendigo next week. I am confident that both teams will represent the College with pride.
I draw families’ attention to the work from home day for students next Wednesday when parent / teacher interviews are on. Teachers have been asked to set the students some work to complete on that day. In addition, we have a Professional Learning Day for staff with Leading Teams on 29 August. This is a student free day.
Stay safe
