Student Voice : Heights Campus
We have had an amazing start to Term 3. Already there have been many exciting events such as NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee. It is celebrated from 7 to 14 July, however at Springvale Rise Primary School we celebrate in the first week of Term 3. This year we had a special assembly to learn more about NAIDOC Week and some of our wonderful JLC students shared their learning. Some of our MLC and SLC students also read out the beautiful poems they had written.
The theme for this year was “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak Loud and Proud!” and Aunty Muriel Bamblett won the NAIDOC person of the year award. MLC students together with Mrs Malan made Johnny cakes with golden syrup poured over the top - delicious!
On the 24th, 25th and 26th of July we had The Great Book Swap. Children were encouraged to bring a gold coin donation and donate any books that they were not reading. Students swapped their old book with a new book. All the donations collected are to go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. Our donations help provide books for Aboriginal children and families living in remote communities across Australia. Well done Springvale Rise!
The interschool sports soccer team from Heights Campus will compete in the division finals in Week 3 along with the two netball teams from the Springvale Campus. We wish them all the best of luck.
As the Olympics from Paris will be starting on the weekend the seniors have organised a Mini Olympics event for our school. All classes will be participating in a variety of different events. The students will participate in their house teams and will be led by their captains. The winning team will receive a prize.
Our Principal, Mrs Cottier, has come back from her lovely journey around Europe. She has enjoyed her trip and is back to work at school. We are happy to see Mrs Cottier back as we have missed her.
We hope everyone is enjoying Term 3 and remember to stay warm and dry!
