Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Morning tea for all!

We are committed to increasing the opportunities for engagement with our community, as well as having our families onsite in our spaces to strengthen our connections. We are extending an open invitation to all of our families to gather in the staffroom after drop-off (approximately 9:00am) for a cuppa and a chat on the morning of Friday, August 9. Bring your school community friend with you, meet your friends there, or simply come and make some friends. The more the merrier and we would love to see our staffroom bursting at the seams with our valued school community members.

NAPLAN Yr 3 & Yr 5

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards.

NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It does not replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.

Student NAPLAN Reports are available from the Administration Office and must be collected by families. Thank you for your support in collection.

We want our Parents/Caregivers/Guardians to tell us what they think!

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from Monday 29 July to Friday 30 August 2024. All families will be provided with a link via email to complete the survey and are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home.

Please reach out to the school directly for survey guides in your language.

School Pride Afternoon

Pop the date in your diary and come along to support sprucing up our beautiful school. The Junior School Council has identified a date for a School Pride Afternoon where we invite families to join us in engaging in a Working Bee in the last hour of the day on Friday August 23 from 2:30 pm. More details will be provided to families shortly. WE would love you to join us in building our school pride!

2025 Enrolments

Do you have a child, or know of a family with children ready to start school in 2025?

Miners Rest Primary School is currently taking enrolments for 2025. Please access an enrolment form via our school website or, visit the Administration Office to collect a form in hard copy, and pick up a current family handbook too.

What's coming up this term?

It is always helpful to check the calendar to stay up to date with events and happenings at the school. A couple of events that we are all really looking forward to this term are:

Book Week - a Book Week Parade to be held to launch this very popular week on the calendar.

Writer's Festival - presenting proud pieces of writing displayed by every author in the school.

Student Led Conferences - held on the second last day of term (Thursday September 19) from 12:00 pm until 7:00pm, where students will proudly share their Learning Portfolios.

Lots to look forward to!

Enjoy the rest of the week,

Kylie Nissen.
