Level 5 & 6 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 3

🌱LITERACY

With the excitement surrounding the Paris 2024 Olympics, students will be drafting, editing and publishing a piece of writing, inspired by some action shots of athletes from the events over the week.

In Reading, we will continue Literature Circles. Students will be learning about some of the specific roles involved in undertaking a novel study in a Literature Circle. Grade 5 students will be reading Dirrarn by Carl Merrison and Hakea Hustler. Grade 6 students will be reading Part 2 of Us Mob Walawarru by David Spillman and Lisa Wilyuka.

The table below outlines what we will be looking at during our Literacy sessions.

What you can do at home

Help your child to set aside time to read - preferably every night. This will help them build important learning habits. Your child now has access to Reading Eggspress, to help with adding variety to their range of text choices.

🌱MATHS

We will be extending our understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages. Our learning will include:

- The connection between fractions, decimals and percentages in real life contexts, such as measurement, sporting statistics

- Fractions, decimals and percentages of quantities

- Application of our learning in real life situations, such as shopping discounts

What you can do at home

Find examples of fractions, decimals and percentages in everyday life (e.g. a fuel tank and litres per kilometres). Complete the activities on fractions in Mathletics.

🌱HOMEWORK

- Mathletics - minimum 1000 points from the work that has been set or 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week.

- Reading 20 minutes per night, 4 times a week (Reading Eggspress is available)

- Recording events in their student diaries

- Grade 5s will begin designing ideas for the back of the 2025 Grade 6 Polo t-shirt. More information will be sent home with the children.

- Grade 6s will begin working on their Graduation Memory Book. More information will be sent home with the children.

📗GRADE 6 MEMORY BOOK

Last week, communication was sent home regarding Grade 6 Memory Books. A suggested timeline and high quality examples have also been posted to your child's Showbie account under 'Memory Books'. They have been briefed of the expectations and have been encouraged to follow the suggested timeline where possible. We look forward to seeing their completed books in late Term 4.

The first page to be completed is for Prep, with a suggested due date of 11th of August.

📚PREMIERS' READING CHALLENGE
