Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 4, Term 3

WEEK 4 LEARNING

CBL

We will be looking at the role the body plays in processing our senses and what it does to keep us safe when we are experiencing conflict or stress. We will explore 'Triggers', regulation and how 'Glimmers' can help to remind our body that it is safe. This links in with our Big Idea of 'Respect' through the lens of showing respect for ourselves and others by understanding and regarding our needs, feelings and rights.

📚 Literacy

This week in Phonics we are exploring suffixes (s, es, less, ful, -y, ness).  Students continue to build their vocabulary through daily exposure to word definitions and how these can be used in writing. They have also enjoyed learning and practicing diagonal joins to and from the letter 'e '.

We will continue to unpack sentence structure, with a focus on building complex sentences by joining simple sentences with a coordinating conjunction. We are working towards publishing a structured information report about a topic of choice.

What you can do at home

Discuss interesting words that your child has learnt at school. Try and use these words in conversation during the week. Encourage your child to set aside time to read every night, include time to read aloud and or record themselves reading on their iPad. Some students are participating in the Premiers Reading Challenge, this is a great way to expose your child to a variety of literature.

🎲 Maths

This week we are revisiting the concept of fractions. The language we are using relates to 'equal parts' -

Numerator - How many equal parts do you have?

Denominator - How many equal parts in the whole?

Students will contiune to use the CUBES strategy and bar model to solve worded problems.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to show 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4 and other fractions in every day life and in different ways ie - cutting a sandwich in half in two different ways, finding fractions of a collection.

Complete 400 points of Mathletics including all set task.  You can support your child to practice their times tables. In Grade Three, our focus is on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. In Grade Four we continue to strengthen these as well as building in 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Students are encouraged to bring their iPads fully charged each day

🌱 If your child wishes to bring slippers, they can bring these in to be worn in the classroom only. Additionally, you might like to put a spare pair of socks and pants in your child's bag during the wetter months.

🌱If you can help out for SAKG, please check your emails for the volunteer link.

🌱We are using whiteboard markers and boards everyday. It would be fantastic if students could bring a set of their own that are labeled.
