Literacy - Book Week Author Visit

As we gear up for a busy Book Week starting Monday, August 19th, we seized the opportunity to invite an author to our school.

On Tuesday 6th August students were very lucky to meet author Andrew Macdonald.Andrew came and shared his story about how he became an author and where he gets his ideas about books from. He even showed us his own Book Week costume from when he was a kid, a homemade Batman costume which saw him wear his underpants on the outside of his pants.

Andrew explained that he gets his ideas for books from the world around him and from there he grows his ideas. He shared with students about writing a book from the point of view of a twig and how he developed the character to have emotions so he was able to engage his audience.

Andrew, with the help of the students, was able to create a storyboard about the point of view of a fly looking for something to eat. He shared that characters from the books Real Pigeons are based on the different types of Pigeons we see all around us.

From this discussion students were about to create their own pigeon that they could potentially use in one of their own stories.

Thank you to Andrew for coming to visit our school, he was kind enough to sign some books for students and the school. He definitely left an impression on our students.
