Dear Parents and Carers
"Celebrating the Success of Our Maths Enrichment Program"
I am thrilled to share the remarkable progress of our Maths Enrichment Program at OLHC. This initiative was developed in response to the requests from families in our community, and it has been incredibly rewarding to see the positive impact it has had on our students.
Our students who have been participating in the enrichment program have shown outstanding dedication and skill, particularly in their participation in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad (APSMO) challenges. Mrs. Andrea Chesterman, who has been expertly leading this program, provided the following update on our students' achievements so far this year:
"Congratulations to our groups of students who are participating in the Australasian Problem Solving Mathematical Olympiad (APSMO) challenges as part of our Enrichment program at OLHC. This week, students attempted the third contest of the year, with the final contest scheduled for September. APSMO engages over 100,000 students across Australia and New Zealand in maths problem-solving programs annually. These programs are designed to develop a problem-solving pathway of achievement, offering both mainstream and high-achieving students the opportunity to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Students in the Year 1/2 groups are introduced to problem-solving concepts through fun activities that encourage collaboration and peer learning. At the 3/4 level, students participate in the Maths Explorer program, allowing them to experience official Olympiad contests by completing four annual challenges under test-like conditions, while still promoting group discussion and reasoning. Year 5/6 students engage in the formal Olympiads, administered under examination conditions, competing against other schools and students across Australasia. Through the Years 5–6 Maths Olympiad, students are introduced to important mathematical concepts and terminology, strengthening their mathematical intuition before starting secondary school. This extension program also provides the satisfaction and joy of meeting challenges. To all those involved, keep up the great work!"
At OLHC, we are always open to feedback from our school community, and it is through this collaborative spirit that we continue to grow and improve. I am immensely proud of our students' achievements and the dedication of our staff, particularly Mrs. Chesterman, in making this program a success. Thank you to everyone for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Warm regards,
