Cockatoos and Time Machines: Photography Excursion

On Monday 5 August, Photographic Digital Media students ventured out to Cockatoo Island where we were able to explore the island and investigate its heritage. Along the way, we photographed what we saw, not only enjoying the brilliant views and endless photographic opportunities, but also creating core memories. After we had explored all that Cockatoo Island had to offer us, we then arrived at Circular Quay. The 10-minute ferry ride made for some great cityscape photography! Our last stop on this trip was the Museum of Contemporary Art, better known as the MCA. We spent just over an hour roaming between the stunning artworks of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s 'Time Machine' which helped us as Photography students gain a deeper understanding of skills that we can use to improve our photos in the future. As a group, we would like to thank Ms Doyle, Ms Janes and Mr Wheatley for organising such a special trip for us all.

Matt Dixon, Year 11

The excursion was fun and enjoyable. My favourite part personally was when we were walking around taking photos on Cockatoo Island. While the island is very big and fun to explore, I also appreciated the history it had to offer and all the sights to see, along with the great views.

Archie Turner   Yr 10

After our time at Cockatoo Island, we took a ferry to Circular Quay for lunch and an opportunity to see Hiroshi Sugimoto’s art exhibition at the MCA. We got to capture many of his black-and-white analogue photographs along with some of his other works, as well as many other artist’s creations.
