Year 8 Ski Trip
Our ski trip was an incredible experience, packed with challenges and opportunities for growth in resilience, independence, and perseverance.
Day 1: We began our journey with an early wake-up call at 5:45 am Monday and embarking on a six-hour bus ride to Jindabyne. After arriving, we sorted our ski hire gear and settled into our cabins, preparing for the days ahead.
Day 2: Our introduction to skiing started early, with most of us experiencing snow for the first time at Blue Cow at Perisher. The initial challenge of getting on skis was met with determination. Instructors guided us through the basics, and despite initial struggles, we persevered and began to improve. We were fortunate to have clear skies and excellent conditions, which made learning easier.
Day 3: Waking up early again, we continued honing our skills. Many of us progressed from the magic carpet to green runs and beyond, demonstrating increased confidence and skills. The sense of achievement was palpable as we navigated the slopes more independently. The weather remained favourable, providing us with perfect skiing conditions.
Day 4: The final day on the mountain was a special milestone, as our group became the first St Pius X group to enjoy a third day of skiing. This extra time allowed us to solidify our skills and enjoy the experience even more, despite a minor setback with an injury in our group, all retuned safe from the slopes. Once again, we were blessed with great weather, making our last day on the slopes truly memorable.
Return Journey: We packed up and began our journey back to Sydney, reflecting on an unforgettable week. The trip was made possible by the dedication and support of our teachers who gave up a whole week with their families and lives and parents, to whom we are immensely grateful. Special thanks to the staff at Alpine Adventist Village for their kindness and assistance, and to our instructors for their patience and guidance.
This ski trip was not only about learning to ski but also about embracing challenges, building resilience, and growing as individuals. It is a memory that will stay with us long after graduation. Thank you to everyone who made this incredible experience possible!

Bullying No Way: Week of Action, 12 -16 August
The National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence has a new name - Bullying No Way: National Week of Action.
Bullying No Way Week, 12 to 16 August 2024, is Australia’s key bullying prevention initiative and connects schools and communities to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.
Purple is the new hero colour representing Bullying No Way: National Week of Action, and our commitment to standing against bullying.
2024 theme
The theme for 2024 is 'Everyone Belongs'.
When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.
Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.
This week St Pius X will raise awareness with the following activities:
Monday - Each homeroom will watch a short video on bullying, What is bullying? - National Definition of Bullying - YouTube.
After the video the Wellbeing Leaders have come up with the poster to be used to create a conversation around bullying. This poster will then be displayed in each room.
Wednesday - At Assembly an SRC member will give a talk on bullying.
Friday - Each student is encouraged to wear ‘crazy socks’. Year 11 students will be greeting all students at the front entrance and handing out bullying action cards.
Friday 2:00 pm - 2:45 pm - The Kids Helpline is having the largest anti bullying lesson. I have registered for this and the recording will be sent out to Pastoral Leaders.
All week -
- The library will have a purple theme.
- The big screen with have the information sheet and silly socks poster displayed.
Year 9 & 10 Geography Excursion
This week, Year 9 and 10 Geography students enjoyed the sunshine during an educational trip to Sydney Zoo. They delved into the fascinating world of animal habitats, exploring the various ecosystems represented within the zoo. The students learned about the critical processes involved in supporting the reintroduction of animals into environments where they have been extinct. Engaging with the zoo's exhibits and staff, they gained a deeper understanding of conservation efforts and the importance of biodiversity, all while enjoying the beautiful weather and the unique experiences the zoo offers.
Year 9 2025 Subject Selection Evening
I thank our Assistant Principal - Teaching and Learning, Mr Stephen Davidson, Year 8 Pastoral Leader, Mr Jack Kovacic and Curriculum Coordinator Mr Dennis Lee along with our Leaders of Learning who presented at Tuesday night’s Year 9 2025 subject selection evening.
This is an exciting time for our Year 8 students as it is the first time they have the opportunity to choose subjects of interest as they continue their learning and growth at St Pius X College.
