Year 12 Awards Assembly Semester 1

On Friday July 19, we had our final awards ceremony as a cohort. Year 12 can be an intense year with studying, tests and exams and so it was fantastic to see all the students being celebrated at our Semester 1 Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony began with a fantastic acoustic duet to ‘Something in the Orange’ by Zach Bryan performed by the Performing Arts Captain Ayla Harnett and Noah Vincent.

While there is so much emphasis often placed on marks and numbers, the outstanding Grade Point Average (GPA) awards recognised students’ attitudes and behaviour, the other attributes a student displays that are essential to a strong learning environment. The GPA acknowledges a student's effort, behaviour and organisation in their classes on a 5 point scale and those students with a 4.8 average and above were awarded at our ceremony. Seeing so many faces from our cohort on that stage is an amazing achievement and shows the dedication and work they have been consistently doing over this past semester.

Three students achieved a perfect GPA average of 5!  Congratulations to Jett James, Rhianna Roy and Olivia Bradshaw. So, why not make it your goal to be one of those students on that stage at Valedictory this year?

Here are three simple steps that you can take to improve or keep up an outstanding GPA:

  1. Always make sure that you have everything you need before coming to class; your pencil case, laptop, textbooks and workbooks for example. Check that these essentials are packed into your bag or in your locker so that you can always be prepared for every class.
  2. Bring a positive, can-do attitude every day. People learn best when they’re excited and ready to and there’s so much that you can do to show your teachers that you’re eager to learn. Ask questions if you need, seek feedback on your work and participate in class discussions!
  3. Help create a positive learning environment by respecting your peers and teachers. Collaboration is key to doing well in Year 12 and your classmates might be able to give you a helping hand when you need it. Make sure that you’re treating them, as well as your teacher, with kindness to make everyone feel welcome in the classroom.

An award dedicated to students' academic Excellence and Endeavors in class was also presented to students who excelled in four or five of their classes, commending them for their outstanding achievements.

Additionally an English award was presented to Connor Nugent for his awe inspiring poem, which was entered in the 'LHS Force of Nature' creative writing competition during first semester.

It was wonderful to see most of the cohort receive awards during this mid year event. We look forward to celebrating their continued successes at the valedictory ceremony later this year.  Congratulations to all students for their brilliant accomplishments.

Semester 1

Congratulations to all the students who were recognised for their hard work this past semester, through Excellence, Endeavor and GPA awards.

With the beginning of a new semester there is a chance to refresh and get back on top of schoolwork to finish off the year strong. We hope to see everyone make the most of this and be recognised at the End of Year Awards Ceremony.

Remember to talk to your Homeroom teacher about recording points so that we are able to see more students earn their well deserved badges!

Congratulations to those who did earn a blue badge, hopefully there will be some bronze badges received in the future!

VCE OE Snow Camp

Monday July 15 - Friday July 19

The first week of Term 3 was a thrilling experience for twelve VCE students and staff as they embarked on a 5-day, 4-night camp at the Bogong Outdoor Education Centre. Surrounded by the stunning natural scenery, they delved into a range of activities, including snow shoeing, cross country skiing, and downhill skiing.

The adrenaline-pumping winter sports were balanced with enriching study night activities, providing the perfect blend of adventure and academic engagement.

Year 12 Snow Camp

Athletics Carnival

Thursday August 15

Athletics was a great opportunity for all year levels to get out and compete in thrilling track and field events. It was wonderful to see so many competitive faces trying their hardest to earn as many points as possible for their houses. Not to mention all of the very creative Year 12 costumes, some of our favourites being Inside Out characters, Monsters, Inc., AFL players, Tradies and countless others!

Health & Wellbeing Day

Tuesday August 20

With exams fast approaching and SACs ramping up, our Year 12 Health and Wellbeing Day gave us a much-needed rest and rejuvenation at what can be a stressful time. This was a day for us to partake in some super fun activities and spend time with our friends, giving us a chance to have some fun away from the textbooks.

We had an exhilarating start to the day with trivia, produced by one of the Year 12 Captains, Olivia Bradshaw, where people got very competitive, working in teams to figure out answers to categories from sport to history and song artists.

After recess we got to make the decision on what activities to do next, deciding between a lake walk with Ollie, Mr Toma’s dog, or cooking muffins and making hot chocolate to wash it all down.

We were also lucky enough to have a pizza lunch, followed by mindfulness coloring and bracelet making, while the movie "Cars" played in the background.

Overall, Year 12 Health and Wellbeing Day went off without a hitch, enjoyed by everyone that came and participated.

Valedictory Dinner

The Senior School is excited for the upcoming 2024 Valedictory Dinner held to celebrate our Year 12 cohort’s achievements.

This year the venue is Crown Palladium, Level 1 Crown Towers 8 Whiteman Street, Southbank on Wednesday 4 December.

School Photo Quotes

We would like to remind our Year 12 students to work on developing a 'quote' which they would like to accompany their Year 12 photo. The quote should be one that represents who they are and how they would like to be remembered!

"I attribute my success to this: I never gave or took any excuse." - Florence Nightingale

"I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have."  - Thomas Jefferson

Quotes need to be handed in to the Senior School Office as soon as possible, so that the SRC can finalise the page for the school Salamander.
