CAREERS NEWS

University Open Days

We encourage all Year 10 to 12 students considering university, to attend at least one Open Day to explore courses, speak with lectures and students and to take a campus tour.

Work Experience

Students from Years 10 to 12 (must be at least 15 years old) have the opportunity to undertake 'Work Experience' to develop their awareness of appropriate attitudes and behaviour in real work environments.

Work experience is intended to give students insights into industry and the workplace. It provides students with the valuable opportunity to explore career options and develop skills and make contacts with potential employers.  Student placement with employers is primarily to observe and learn - not to undertake activities which require extensive training or expertise.

Work Experience at Lilydale High School can occur at any time within the school year (except for exam period) for between 5-10 days.

Any students wishing to complete work experience in building and construction trades or plumbing, will be required to complete a white card prior to approval of placement.

Students interested in completing Work Experience can see Mr Kogelman or Ms Skewes, who will inform them of the necessary processes and forms required to complete Work Experience.

Year 9 Morrisby Career Assessments

Individual interviews to discuss the results of the assessment with students commenced the last week of August.  Only students that have fully completed the assessment will attend an individual interview.

Any student who has not fully completed the assessment and would like to do so, can see the Careers Team.

This is a valuable resource for students to help recognise skills and to explore various careers and pathway options.

Year 12 VTAC Applications

Students who are planning to apply for University of TAFE in 2025 must create a VTAC account.  They will need a USI number and their VCAA number to complete this application.  www.vtac.edu.au

VTAC applications are due by Monday 30 September at 5.00 pm.  Students must pay the $60 VTAC fee for the application to be processed.

Tax File Numbers

Any student will need at tax file number if they start work (part-time and full-time) and all students planning on a tertiary education require one when they start.

Importantly, current Year 12 students are reminded that they will be requested to provide their Tax File Number (TFN) on enrolment to TAFE or university next year, so it is worthwhile getting an application submitted early!

Students must now apply for a TFN online and have their identity verified through an interview at a participating Australia Post office.  To apply and also to find out about participating Post Offices, visit Apply for a TFN.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A reminder that all students who are planning on enrolling in a TAFE or University course, or a VET subject next year they are required to obtain a USI.

A USI is used by training providers to register students in a course and to track their completion.

USI’s can be obtained from the Unique Student Identifier website; www.usi.gov.au.
