From the Principal

We would like to acknowledge the original custodians of this land

and waterways and pay our respects to the Elders past and

present and emerging, for they hold the memories, the traditions,

the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia.

In Faith we will show..... Respect, Empathy, Inclusion, Excellence!

First Eucharist

Congratulations to the Year 4 students who received the Eucharist for the first time last Sunday at the Parish Mass.  Thank you to Fr Leenus who made the mass reverent and special for the children and to the families who attended.  We are always fortunate that the Parish Choir and Band play during the mass, giving the celebration a special sense of importance.  Thank you to Mr Tim O'Mahoney and Mrs Eadaoin Lorigan for preparing the children for the sacrament and making it special for them.

Congratulations to Chiara T, Lily H, Samantha M, Vivienne T, Esha D, Lily E, Lucas F, Nathan R and Theresa W.  May this special day remain deep in deep in your hearts.

MACS Vision for Instruction

I would like to bring to your attention an update from MACS in relation to the current practices across our schools.

"The MACS Vision for Instruction was inspired by the strategic plan, MACS 2030: Forming Lives to Enrich the World, and calls upon our Catholic school teachers to embrace the MACS mission, drawing guidance from the light of Jesus Christ as our model teacher. Grounded in rich cognitive science, Vision for Instruction identifies the most effective teaching methods supported by evidence of their positive impact on student outcomes.

As a result MACS, have high expectations for every learner in every school, and all MACS teachers will be supported by the system to implement these practices. Vision for Instruction is the outcome of many months of work involving teachers, leaders and educators across the Archdiocese and around the world.

It is an exciting time as we collectively embark on this journey."

Dr Edward Simons, Executive Director. 2024,

At St Anthony's we take great pride in knowing that not only do we follow current practices and research but we have been doing so for a number of years before the MACS Position Statement.  We draw from Cognitive Load Theory and the robust evidence based on The Science of Learning and implement best practice instruction, curriculum design and planning and assessment to address the educational outcomes that are required by all schools.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and celebrate the wonderful group of staff who work at our school. They go over and above their call of duty to ensure that they provide the best possible teaching so that the educational needs of each child is met.

We are a small school who delivers above expectations.

Australian Book Week

The annual Book Week celebrations take place over the next few weeks with special authors coming to visit the students and of course our special dress up parade. Everyone is welcome to come along on Friday 23 August as your favourite book character and join in part of the fun activity. Thank you to Mr Tim O'Mahoney for organising all the events in the lead up to the week. Please read the special English section of the newsletter.

Families Returning in 2025

We have commenced planning for next year and request families to email me at  principal@santglen.catholic.edu.au if your child is currently in Prep to Year 5 and will not be returning to our school next year.

Yesterday was the feast of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and in her words a special reminder:  "Never see a need without doing something about it."

Yours Sincerely

Margaret Carlei
