Family Groups

Last Friday we started the term with our first Family Group rotations. In cooking, students made sausage roll pinwheels and mini lemon cheesecake. It is fabulous to see students try lots of different foods and discover the purpose and the process of ingredients such as gelatine. The lemons used for the mini cheesecakes were picked off our Scotsburn tree that day.

Scotsburn Assembly this Friday

This Friday will be our first Scotsburn assembly for the term, in the shed at 3:00pm. We would love to see as many families in attendance as possible, to kick off the term on a great note!

Smile Squad Session

Last Thursday we had Courtney visit us from the Smile Squad to give the students a presentation on all things related to oral health. There were lots of practical tips and examples throughout the presentation, and the students definitely learnt a lot! We hope all students have been practising their brushing techniques both morning and night this week.

Concert Preparation

Well, concert practice is well and truly in full swing! Both classes have been busy practising the first moves to the choreographed dances, which has been a lot of fun. Mrs Morgan will soon be sending out some information regarding donations and concert help. As we get closer to Concert Week (Week 7), it most definitely will be all hands on deck! Keep an eye out on Compass for updates about volunteering assistance.

Buninyong Community Playgroup Visit

Last Friday we welcomed the Buninyong Community Playgroup for a visit to the campus. Working out of the Japanese room, they had a great morning, also making use of the playground spaces and interacting with the Scotsburn students. We look forward to them visiting twice more later in the term.

Whole School Disco - This Friday 26th July

Student Principal For a Day Competition

In recognition of Principal’s Day, on Friday 2 August (the end of next week) we are giving one student a chance to see what it’s like to be a principal and become Student Principal for a Day!

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into the shoes of Mr Conlan and shadow him for the day, develop leadership skills, and make a positive impact on our school community.

It’s open to all students and any interested students will need to submit an application by this Friday (no more than one A4 page), explaining why they would like to be the Student Principal for a Day. Our principal team (Mr Conlan, Mrs Phillips and Mrs Sullivan) will then select the lucky candidate based on creativity, an idea or opportunity they can see for our school and enthusiasm for the role. Students at Scotsburn can hand their applications in to Mr Morgan or Mrs Anderson.

We may even find an opportunity for a Scotsburn student to shadow Mr Morgan for a day as well!

Good luck to all of the students who apply!

NAPLAN - Individual Student Reports

Yesterday hard copies of the individual student reports were sent home with all Year 3 and 5 students along with a brochure for parents and carers explaining how to read and interpret their child’s NAPLAN report.

It is important that parents and carers store these reports in a safe place for future reference, particularly if you are planning to apply at an independent school for secondary education as you will require these reports as part of the application process.

SC1 Learning Snapshot

SC1 has had a busy and great start to Term 3. Concert practice is well under way and students are very excited to be learning their dances ready for the big day/night. We will continue to communicate lots of information regarding the concert in newsletters and Compass so please remember to keep an eye on these communication platforms.

We have had a fabulous start to the term with nearly 100% of the class bringing their readers pouches and diary to school every day. Thank you for your support with this. In Reading, we are learning about nonfiction text features. This fits in well with our inquiry topic of minibeasts and students are enjoying discovering lots about minibeasts. This Thursday we have our incursion with EcoLink at 10:00am where students will be learning about bees. In Writing, students have been learning about creating sentences with the word but and because to up level their sentencesFor example, ‘worms are living because they move but dirt is nonliving because it does not grow’.

In Maths, we have been learning to name and order months and seasons as well as using a calendar to identify dates and events coming up. This has been very exciting as we have lots of birthdays and special events coming up.

With the weather being extremely cold and windy at the moment, please remember to pack a jacket and a warm hat with your child. When it is too cold and wet to go outside, students will remain inside with activities provided in the classroom or in Lunchtime Club.

As always, if you have any questions, please come in and see us.

Have a great week.

SC2 Learning Snapshot

Last week in SC2 we kicked straight back into the swing of things, resetting our class expectations for routines and rituals. It has been such a pleasure to witness the class working together as a team to develop and maintain these great habits!

In Reading we have used the early part of the term to look at how we select great texts as well as continue to develop our reading stamina. We are encouraging students to also bring in books that they love from home to assist with this.

With our inquiry theme this term being "A Complete and Utter Disaster", our writing sessions have been exploring information texts looking at various natural disasters. Students this week will select a specific natural disaster to work on.

In Maths we are beginning to explore the concepts of money as well as statistics and probability. Our maths sessions have also continued to make great use of some daily review time, continuing to maintain and develop our number facts.

Have another wonderful week everyone!

Scotsburn Intercampus Travel

At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.

We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.

If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher.
