NAPLAN- Individual Student Reports

Yesterday, hard copies of the individual student reports were sent home with all Year 3 and 5 students along with a brochure for parents and carers explaining how to read and interpret their child’s NAPLAN report.

If you are a parent or carer of a Year 3 or 5 student and didn’t receive a report, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

It is important that parents and carers store these reports in a safe place for future reference, particularly if you are planning to apply at an independent school for secondary education as you will require these reports as part of the application process.

Ballarat Young Authors’ Program

At the end of last term students involved in the Ballarat Young Authors’ Program attended their first workshop day.  The workshop took place at the Ballarat Central Library.

The theme for the day was ‘Past, Present and Future’.  Students engaged with authors and library staff and had opportunities to interact with their peers from the other  participating schools. It was a hugely engaging day and our students embraced each of the opportunities throughout the day with much enthusiasm.

The next workshop day is next Thursday, August eighth which will be hosted by our school at the Scotsburn Campus. The theme of the day is ‘Get Inspired’ and students will have the opportunity to participate in four sessions throughout the day with authors and a songwriter!

Ballarat Bulldogs Read Program

Last Friday the Bulldogs Read Program participants were fortunate to visit the Whitten Mission Oval in Footscray which is the home of the Western Bulldogs AFL and AFLW teams.  The facility has recently undergone a multi-million dollar upgrade, which was very impressive.

Students had an opportunity to view Friday’s Captain’s Run training session and they were then fortunate enough to have an opportunity to mingle with players in their indoor training facility and get their autographs.

The students then had the opportunity to participate in a trivia quiz with their peers from other participating schools. Despite the very cold weather conditions it was a fabulous day out and we are grateful to the Western Bulldogs for providing this opportunity to our students.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

Keep up the great work with your participation in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge everyone and don’t forget to write a book review to share with others as well.

Every student who completes the challenge will receive a certificate at the end of the Challenge. The Challenge ends on September 6th, which is 46 days away, so keep up the reading!

Book Week will be celebrated in Week 6 this term. As we know, it is a very busy term with the concert and the Preps celebrating 100 days of school, and these events require lots of planning and dressing up. Due to this, we will not be holding a Book Week Dress-Up Day. Students will not require a Book Week costume for this week. Instead, we will be running lots of other fun events during the week to celebrate Book Week. We will communicate further information in the coming weeks.
