Kayden Elliott Year 12

We are thrilled to spotlight Kayden Elliott, a remarkable Year 12 student at Glen Innes High School (GIHS), who continues to inspire both his peers and upcoming athletes with his incredible achievements and dedication to long-distance running.

Kayden, who recently secured a national title in long-distance running, exemplifies the spirit of perseverance and ambition. He has set his sights high, training diligently and consistently pushing the boundaries of his athletic capabilities. His commitment to athletics and cross country running is evident not only in his training but also in his friendly demeanour and respect among his classmates—qualities that make him a beloved figure at GIHS.

Before joining GIHS, Kayden already had a track record of success in running, having competed in various events within the Catholic school system. Since his arrival, he has embraced every sporting opportunity, whether big or small, which has significantly contributed to his development as an outstanding young athlete.

Kayden’s achievements in cross country have been nothing short of extraordinary. He has earned the titles of "King of the Corner" and "King of the Mountain" at the GIHS cross country events for the past two years—an impressive feat, especially since the King of Corner title  were traditionally held by sprinters. This demonstrates not only his endurance but also his speed and power, showcasing the effectiveness of his rigorous training.

Beyond his personal achievements, Kayden has played a pivotal role in fostering a passion for running among his peers. He actively participates in a local running group, initiated by Matt Campion, a former cross-country athlete from GIHS. This group, which meets three times a week, emphasises inclusivity and teamwork, allowing all members to learn and grow together. Kayden’s involvement has been instrumental in the success of GIHS runners at events like the North West Trials in Coolah.

Kayden’s standout achievement—winning gold at the Nationals last year—has made him a celebrated athlete within our school community. When asked about his love for running, he simply stated, "I run because I love it." His aspirations are clear: he aims to excel at the upcoming CHS event in July and aspires to compete (and WIN)  in the NCAA in the future.

In his own words, Kayden shared insights into his journey as a runner:

  • Greatest achievement: Winning at Nationals
  • What he dislikes about running: The climate's impact on training
  • Areas for improvement: Enhancing track speed
  • Strength of character: Being self-motivated
  • Aspect to work on: Overcoming self-doubt

Kayden Elliott is not just a talented athlete—he is a role model for his fellow students and a testament to the power of hard work, dedication, and community spirit. We are incredibly proud to have him represent Glen Innes High School and look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish in the future.

 Keep inspiring us, Kayden!
