Principals Report

What an Amazing Term 2!

As we wrap up another fantastic term, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many positives we’ve experienced across our school community. From successful learning programs to sporting achievements, wellbeing initiatives and community events—Term 2 has been filled with opportunities for our students to grow, learn, and connect. Thank you to our staff, students, and families for your ongoing support and commitment.

We’ve seen some improvement in school uniform compliance this term, and we thank families who are supporting us in this area. Wearing our uniform with pride is about more than appearance—it fosters a strong sense of belonging, unity, and respect for our school values. We encourage all families to ensure their children are wearing the correct school uniform each day. If you require assistance or support with uniforms, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.

School reports were sent home on Thursday afternoon. I encourage all parents and carers to have meaningful conversations with their children about their progress—particularly around attendance and effort. You may notice that reports look different this term. The NSW Department of Education has made some changes:

· Junior reports will no longer include assessment marks, ranks, or examination results.

· Instead, they now feature a distribution table showing the percentage of students in each achievement level (Outstanding, High, Sound, Basic, Limited).

· For core subjects, this table reflects the entire year group.

· For Years 7 and 8 (Tech, Music, Art) and Years 9 and 10 electives, the comparison is within the class cohort.

These changes aim to provide a more holistic view of student achievement and where they sit in relation to their peers. We will also be holding a Parent-Teacher Evening in Term 3, giving families a valuable opportunity to speak directly with teachers about their child’s progress, celebrate successes, and discuss any concerns. More details will be sent out early next term.

As we prepare for Term 3, I encourage families to reflect on attendance. Every day at school counts. We know that students who attend regularly are more likely to achieve academic success, form strong friendships, and experience a positive sense of wellbeing. Even one or two more days per term can make a real difference! Let's challenge ourselves to improve on this in Term 3.

We want all our students to thrive. This means supporting them to feel safe, connected, and confident at school—but it also means holding high expectations. We expect students to be respectful, ready to learn, and to engage positively in their learning

environment. Together, we can continue building a strong and supportive school culture.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank students, staff, and families for the incredibly warm welcome I have received this term. It has been an honour to join this wonderful school community, and I am genuinely looking forward to continuing the journey with you in Term 3.

Next term is shaping up to be an exciting one. In Week 3 (4–8 August), we’ll be celebrating both NAIDOC Week and Education Week, highlighting the NAIDOC theme “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy” and showcasing the incredible work happening across our school in Public Education. Save the date—more details will be shared with families at the start of the term.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge one of our dedicated staff members, Ken McDonald, from our TAS faculty, who will be retiring at the end of this term. Ken has made an enormous contribution to the school over many years, inspiring students through practical learning and his calm, respectful approach to teaching. We thank him for his service and wish him all the best in his retirement.

To all students and staff—have a safe, restful and restorative break. Take time to reset and recharge. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Tuesday 22 July for what will be another exciting and productive term.
