Auslan

This Week's Highlights

This week, our Prep students enjoyed watching Sally and Possum, a delightful TV series where the main characters are Deaf and communicate using Auslan (Australian Sign Language). This experience helped students appreciate the importance of visual representation and diversity, as they observed native signers interacting. They also learnt how to fingerspell their names!

Inspired by the episode "Take a Line for a Walk," students engaged in an art activity where they drew continuous lines to create unique patterns. They then applied their Auslan colour knowledge to identify and describe the different colours used in their artwork

In Grades 1 and 2, students continued to develop and extend their Auslan fruit vocabulary. They practiced constructing sentences to express their likes and dislikes, enhancing their communication skills in a fun and interactive way.

Grade 3 students focused on learning the Auslan signs for the days of the week. They explored the connections between these signs and their English equivalents, deepening their understanding of language structures.

Across all grades, we incorporated songs to practice these new signs, making the learning process enjoyable and memorable for our students.
