The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

This week, we celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus—a special day in the Church’s calendar that invites us to reflect on the boundless love, mercy, and compassion Jesus has for each one of us. The image of the Sacred Heart, often surrounded by flames and a crown of thorns, is a powerful symbol of Jesus’ enduring and self-giving love—a love that never gives up, even when it is hurt.

For families in a Catholic school community, this feast is a beautiful reminder of what we are called to do each day: love generously, forgive often, and reach out to others with kindness. In our homes, these are the everyday choices that bring Jesus’ heart to life in real and practical ways.

As parents and carers, we are our children's first and most important teachers in faith. Celebrating this feast can be a special opportunity to gently open up conversations about love, sacrifice, and compassion—values that sit at the heart of our Catholic tradition.

Here are some reflective questions to consider with your family:

  • What does it mean to have a “heart like Jesus”?
  • How can we show love in our home when someone is having a hard day?
  • Who might need our kindness and prayer this week?
  • How can we make space in our lives to rest in God’s love?
