A day in Melbourne University -Faculty of IT
One of our Year 10 international students, Jerry Liu, with the help of our Career Pathway team, recently had an opportunity to participate in the event called " A Day in Melbourne University".
Here is what Jerry wrote:
"We had 4 periods today at Melbourne University: During the first lesson, the teacher gave an introduction and helped us learn about engineering and this subject at the University of Melbourne. Then we played Kahoot, which was about general knowledge about the University of Melbourne and engineering.
The second lesson was taught by a professor who took us deeper into engineering, and he was very humorous. This lesson can be divided into two parts. The first part is about engineering knowledge related to heart transplantation and cardiovascular blockage treatments. The second part was a group innovation design challenge, where we redesigned common stuff from daily life. For example, our group redesigned traffic lights and gave a group presentation. After that, we had lunch, and the school provided pizza. After lunch, the third lesson took us out off campus to a teaching building outside the University of Melbourne for a group competition in engineering. Within a limited time, we discussed and built a bridge as a team. The bridge was then tested, and scores were given. Our group got the highest score in this part. The fourth lesson was IT, where we learned how to use Arduino and C++ programming. Arduino is a simple electronic prototyping platform with both hardware and software components. Today, we focused on the software part, using C++ programming to control an LED light in a hardware assembly. This lesson was really difficult."
Thank you Jerry for sharing your great experience and we hope your dream comes true to be an engineer.
End of Term 2
What a busy term we have had. We wish you all a well deserved break.
Many students will return to their home countries during the school holiday to reunite with their parents and families. We are pleased to see that our students follow the IEPD's rule to fill all the Travel Request forms in advance which are signed by parents, students, and host families. These forms must be approved by the college Principal before we submit to the VISIT system. We wish you a good journey.
We are sad to say goodbye to Joe, Patrick and Felix who have decided to transfer to another school. We wish you all the best.
