School Athletics Carnival: Thursday 26th June, 2025
Diocesan Athletics Carnival: Thursday 7th August, 2025
Athletics Carnival
The Athletics Carnival is a compulsory school day and all children are required to attend. The carnival events will start at 8:45am. You will need to arrange transport for your children to the venue. All students will need to report to their classroom teacher when they arrive at the grounds. Any students who do not go home with their parents will catch the bus back to school at the conclusion of the carnival, which will be at 2.30pm. This will ensure convenience to all parents, especially those who work. Children can then travel home as they would usually do on a Thursday. If a parent is at the carnival, you may take your child home with you, but please let their assigned teacher know. The levy for this carnival has been paid in your activity levy at the start of 2025.
PLEASE CONSENT to this event on Compass ASAP.
LUNCH: Canteen items can be pre-ordered via Compass. Please complete your orders by 3.00pm Tuesday, 24th June. Limited items will be available for purchase on the day (cash or card) for spectators:

- Water – $2
- Soft drink – $3
- Powerade – $4
- Chocolates – $3
- A bag of lollies – $2
DISCUS: Discus will be held at the Athletics Carnival at 8.00am. Children wishing to participate in this event must know how to use a discus correctly; participation in Little Athletics is favourable. Please email setsport@arm.catholic.edu.au if your child is participating in discus by Thursday 19th June, 2025.
1500m Event: If you would like to nominate your child for the 1500m event for the Diocesan Athletics Carnival, please email setsport@arm.catholic.edu.au with your child's time. Please understand that this is not an automatic qualification.
If you are able to assist as a parent volunteer, please fill out the attached form and/or indicate on the Compass permission form. Parent Helpers - Athletics Carnival 2025 Google Form
Time permitting, we will be holding the annual ‘Parent/Teacher 100m Dash’ towards the end of the day at the Athletics Carnival. Parents can self-nominate on the day! See you at the start line.
SPECTATORS WELCOME
Please see the attached map for parking and access to the Athletics Centre. Spectators are allowed to watch the events from the lime green areas outside the track. Only teachers, designated parent helpers and students are allowed access on and across the track. No parents or spectators are allowed in the centre of the track please.
Rough Order of Events: Our carnival is very busy! Every age group is involved in something all of the time. Please see the rough order of events for the day. This may help you decide when you might be able to pop over to the carnival in your lunch break if you were unable to take the day off work or grandparents may like to know where to look for their grandchild.
The carnival is conducted under P.S.S.A. rules. Ages are determined by the age your child turns this year, up to 31st December. Children aged 8 to 13 have been divided into two divisions (Championship and House) for each event. This allows all children to compete at their level.
DIOCESAN SELECTION: A team will be selected to represent St Edward’s at the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Tamworth. The Primary Diocesan Athletics Carnival will be held on Thursday 7th August 2025 at the Tamworth Regional Athletics Centre located off Jack Smyth Drive, Tamworth. This carnival is a selection event for the Polding Athletics Carnival in Glendale on Friday 12th September, 2025. Three children are selected in Track events and two for Field events. Diocesan 100m events are conducted in age divisions; 200m, 800m and all field events are conducted in three divisions (Open, 11 Years or Junior). Please note: It is possible to be your school age champion and not qualify for selection in the school team.
WWCC NUMBER: This is part of the Government's keeping schools safe. The check is free if you are a volunteer. It only costs if you need it for your work commitments. Please email setsport@arm.catholic.edu.au your WWCC no., as well as your date of birth, if the school doesn't already have it so your information can be verified.
Championship Events:
Please check the Championship Events to see if your child will be participating in these and make them aware of this. These events may be held in a different area of the carnival and the participating students need to be aware if they are in these events. It is also handy to know as a spectator so you know where to look.
