Year 5 Highlight

Our Year 5 students have been diving into the world of 2D shapes during their recent maths lessons. They’ve been learning all about how shapes can move in space through reflections, rotations, and translations. These concepts, known as transformations, have been brought to life through engaging, hands-on activities that make learning both fun and meaningful.

Using paper, rulers, tracing tools, and their own creativity, students have explored how shapes can change position while keeping their size and form the same. They’ve been challenged to flip, turn, and slide shapes to create patterns and solve puzzles. These tasks have not only helped students understand geometric ideas more deeply but also supported important skills like problem-solving, visual thinking, and collaboration.

The classroom has been full of energy, teamwork, and curiosity as students share their ideas and learn from one another. Their enthusiasm for geometry is clear in the colourful and carefully crafted work they have completed. It’s been a fantastic journey into the world of 2D shapes, and we’re so proud of their progress!
