Year 4 Highlight

This term in Reading and Writing, students have been learning how authors and advertisers use persuasive techniques to influence what people think, feel, or do. Using The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as our focus text, students analysed how C.S. Lewis carefully chose words and descriptions to persuade readers to feel a certain way about characters and events. Building on this understanding, they explored how similar persuasive techniques, such as emotive language, rhetorical questions, exaggeration and a call to action are used in advertising. Students then applied these skills to create their own advertisements, carefully crafting messages designed to grab attention and convince an audience. It’s been exciting to see them become more critical consumers and creative communicators!
